Default Replacing PSU

Just an info for when my PSU will die too (sooner or later it will).

I'm not able to replace capacitors, and I don't trust any of my friends is able as well, but looking at pictures here on MPC it seems that replacing the whole PSU should be easy.

Is it really only fixed with screws as it appears ?

why do you think you cant replace this yourself??
You need to believe in yourself

I can confirm this is so easy to do that even I have done this!
if you are able to hold a pen then you are also able to hold a iron
If you are able to read you are also able to find the caps (its WRITTEN on the print)
If you can press a button with your finger you are able to place the iron at the right point of the print.

If you really don’t trust this then I’m 100% sure you still have some old TV/radio/ whatever in the basement and just open this device to try it first on this junk

Then you will find out yourself you are able to replace 3 caps

If not please tell me why you cant do this
(ok, I can imagine a situation, if you don’t have any hands on your body, but even then I know a person who use his feed to repair electronics (and this is not a joke)

One advise to give is:
Get those parts NOW before the psu will break (and it will for 100% sure)
Its irritating to WAIT until the problem will happen (angry wife etc etc)

Yes, I'm able to use a pen (not sure I'm able to write something interesting though) because I began when I was 4 and I use a pen every day since then.

I never used a solderer and also didn't own one, so I'm afraid is something different ....

Anyway, thank you for your encouragement

I see it a little bit different as an electronic engineer.
If i think of all the rules i have to follow at work, i only make recommendations here in this forum.
Everyone is doing the repairs on his own risk.
But i wouldn't make those recommendations if i would think it was difficult.

Everyone has to beware of the ~380 Volts DC behind the main rectifier!
It can be there for a very long time after disconnecting the PSU if it is dead.

Ok, this is another good reason for not testing my skill in this task 8O

So, back to my question: what do I need to swap the PSU? Just the right screwdriver?

Yes. It's the same size for the screws in the cover and for the PSU.
