Default KISS DP-1500 Front Panel Button trouble

Hi all.

I have the weirdest problem;

Since a couple of days the eject/stop and play/pause button on my DP-1500 are responding weird.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. I tried a few hard reboots, I tried fw 2.9.1 and 2.9.3. Nothing helps.

Most of the time when i press eject once the tray ejects and immediately the tray goes back in. That's about 80% of the time. the rest of the time the eject button simply doesn't respond. The buttons actually working is sporadic.

Operation by remote is (allmost) flawless.

If anyone has info on this, please let me know.

Probably some false contact inside...
It's hardware, not software related so upgrades won't help...

KiSS RMA (if warranty) or else...

Default More trouble

THanks for the answer.

Today after work i tried to start the device and it hangs at 'KISS DVD'

Opened it up (i came to the same conclusion; faulty wiring) and found a capacitor on the PSU circuit on the virge of breakdown.

Will replace it tomorrow and report back here.

Default Update

Replacing the Electolythic Capacitors did not solve the problem.

My dad attached a scope to the 5v line and discoverred a 20mv ripple. All the other voltages are much cleaner. Perhaps there is more defective than just the capacitors ...

Anyone has electro-technical data on the PSU of the 1500, please tell me.

Thanks in advance

Default Final report

Read on another part of the forum that sometimes, even after fixing the PSU, the device can still hang during bootup and that a fresh firmware should help.

I have kept the power off for 2 hours with a firmware disc waiting in the drive and powered up.

DP1500 actually boots until the screen where you choose between partial / full update. Picture freezes and then blanks. Device locks up and its over again.

Gonna try one more radical solution; replace all the el-co components in the PSU.

Next entry is either 'fixed' or 'scrapped'.

Thanks for all the help

I have my DP-1000 around a year and a half and last week started
with similar simptoms.
I connect the plug, the player lights up but eject buton doesn't open
the drive.
After 20 or so plugs and unplugs it finally boots up correctly.
If i disconect it, he comes back with the same problem at boot.

I activated the warranty on the device, and i'm waiting to see
if they fix it, or exchange it for a brand new.

I think this player should,t boot up at the exact time as we connect the
plug.
Most of the time when i connect it, i really can hear the sound of sparks
from the electric plug.
It should have a secondary On/Off because this may well be the source of
the player problems.

I move the player a lot, from my room to my living room, etc, and the constant plug/unplung may have caused this.

Everytime he remained still and connect he always booted up correctly.

Well let's see how this story end's. I really like the player and i hope
they can fix it.

Good luck.

Default Dead and buried

Today the new PSU arrived for my DP-1500

Unfortunately the device still is malfunctioning. Appearantly the PSU's defect damaged the main logic circuitry

So the end result is; dead and buried.

Fortunately my DP-600 arrived as well so I'm still a little bit happy :P

Thanks to all who helped me and good luck to all

Remon.
