Default Connecting DP-600 Directly to PC without Router

I recently moved and am without the modem/router I used to connect my player through. I thought it would be a simple case of plugging the ethernet cable into my PC and the other end into my player but this seems not to work. When I did it I got a zonealarm pop-up about a new network which I accepted into my trusted zone. But the PC doesn't show as connected connected when I go to my PC-Link on the DP-600 and look for connected devices.
On the PC End, the connection icon for my Gigabit LAN has a yellow Triangle indicating that it is not working properly or has no connectivity.

Any ideas

hi,

did you use a crossover cable?

Does the player have an IP address in the subnet, the PC is using?

Got it working in the end, I rechhecked the manual which got me started but the instructions for the direct connection IP entry/DNS #/No auto DCHP etc still left it not working. I played with the PC end a bit more and added the gateway and DNS at that end even though it never said to do this in the manual and hey presto it was suddenly working. The manual tells you to add a specific IP in the settings for the connection on the PC but it never tells you to add detail to the fields under this.
