Default Net Cinema 1.7a and VISTA

Any other folks out there tried running Net Cinema with Vista?

It works fine for me (and this is with Vista x64 Ultimate) except the vone-server.exe disables the Aero interface. Closing down the streaming server re-enables the Aero stuff.

Is there a fix for this?

And, incidentally, is it possible to get the streaming server to install and run as a service?

Thanks

Keith

You can find info on google on how to run a program as a service. If it
conflicts with the AERO system in windows, then most likely it's not
compatible with Vista, using a resource that aero uses as well...

Thanks for the reply.

I did Google for info about installing apps as services, and now have the Net Cinema service installed and working for XP.

Even better, I thought I'd try using the same method (MS Reskit INSTSRV.EXE) on Vista and to my surprise it works perfectly. And running as a service, Net Cinema does not interfere with Vista's Aero effects.

Cheers,

Keith

I followed this guide:

http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=197

It worked for both XP and Vista. I was logged in with Administrator priviledges on XP and for Vista you need to run your Command window as Administrator (right-click the Command Prompt link and choose 'Run As Administrator'.

Good luck!

Update:

Sorry folks, on my system at least, Net Cinema does NOT work when installed as a service. The service installs correctly using the method I found, and the vone-server.exe will be found running in Processes. However, on logging on with the SZ1310, 'No files' are found.

Pity. It was much neater having it load up as a service.

If you install the latest Java Runtime Environment (http://java.sun.com/javase)
the server runs well under vista.

Hi guys, so of those who have upgraded to Vista since this topic was posted, are you finding that Snazzi Cinema Server 1.7a works well with Vista. I'm thinking of getting a new PC next week and want to be sure the server works ok.

Thanks for your comments ...

The server should run ok if you set it up correctly as a service and make
sure runnng latest java updates. If it should not function, there are many
additional options to install software (ezlinkng for instance) to try and have
data send to the player...

Make sure firewall and such is configured correctly
