Default OLD DViCo Beta Feedback Thread!

Hi all,

DViCo has launched public beta. There will be 2 versions by the end of the
day, 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 (DTV Tuner enabled). here's the change list for you
all...

http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/support/betafirmware.aspx

Here is the release note for 1.2.2.
Using 1.2.3 has slower response time when you do trick play in large AVI files because of the memory occupied by DTV tuner.

This FW is beta firmware for mainly testing MKV file playback feature.
We have been developing MKV support , but We could not say that we
would support MKV because the CPU speed and memory limitation could
have prevent us. Anyway, finally we have open beta firmware.

Please enjoy and give us the feedback through our Q&A or mpcclub
(http://www.mpcclub.com) or avsforum(http://www.avsforum.com) forums.
We closely monitor those forums to gather feedback and make the product
better.

Below is the changes and known problems.

MKV related
1. X.264 and XVID, Divx 4.x,5.x video codecs are supported. (more are
coming) Since we do not have contents, Dix 3.11, Divx 6.x has not been
tested. (I may work or it may not)
2. AC3 and DTS , mp2,mp3, AAC audio codecs are supported
3. 1080p contents have lots of block noise. (Almost all contents below 720p is OK but there is a few which is not)
4. Embedded subtitles is not supported
5. FF2,4,8x is supported. Goto is supported.
6. Rewind, FF16,FF32 are not supported.
7. Goto after 40 min may not work on some files.

Others
1. This version supports VC1 codec in AVI files.
2. Copy or ftp is not working
3. When you play AVI files over 4G, the trick play response time is enhanced.
4. AC3 or DTS is not working through HDMI on most TVs.
5. Other features like JPG slide show performance remains as before.

Increasing JPG slide show stability is our next priority.

Comments and feedback "CONSTRUCTIVE" in here please.
Always add file info and detailed problem description for us to reproduce...

Enjoy
Hi-Jack

Just to sum up to see if I'm not wrong :

- 1.2.2 = new release without ftp and Tuner support
- 1.2.3 = new release with ftp and Tuner support but slower due to memory consumption

Allot of TViX owners don't have a tuner....so would it not be possible to have a FW without tuner support ? That way we could have faster performance.

I agree. I think DVico should release now each firmware in two versions : with and without tuner support.

I have not gotten home from work yet to install the latest beta, but I am guessing it is pretty much the same as the 1.2.0. I tried to stream blu ray rips with AVC MPEG4 and VC-1 codecs (all in an .m2ts container) over the LAN with NFS and no luck. The video for both codecs studders and the audio drops out very quickley. The firmware still seems to support blu ray rips with the MPEG2 codec, but not AVC and VC-1. Has anyone else had any luck with this? I will try playing the files directly from the 4100's hard drive tommorrow, but I am guessing I will get the same results.

Do you think it might be the container? In other words do you think it might not be working due to the fact it is in the .m2ts container instead of avi or .mkv? I have noticed that those of you who have been able to play VC-1 and AVC codecs had your files in .mkv or .avi. I have simply ripped the files using Anydvd HD which puts them into their native container from the blu ray disc which is .m2ts.

Something else that I noticed was that the ripped blu ray VC-1 and AVC files that I am using are much larger than many of your .mkv 1080p files, how did those of you who are using blu ray rips put them into .mkv containers and reduce the size? Thanks for any suggestions.

Another vote for this option from me - would much prefer the memory allocation goes to 1080 rather than the tuner!

Thanks, Mike

Simply because the video is transcoded with a lower bitrate (and sometimes a lower resolutions), very much like some dvds are transcoded to fit a single layer dvd-r. The encoder is most likely x264.
