Default Thecus available at Divxplayer!

Divxplayer announced availability of the Thecus N5200 Pro in their shop.
http://www.divxplayer.nl/2006/index....acturers_id=70

Thecus hasbeen reviewed recently by MPC. Our opinion on Thecus can be
read in our review! With a Thecus NAS one can easily serve files to network
DMA players over SMB and NFS. With integrated uPnP functions and custom
module possibilities, the Thecus is one of the scene's most advanced
products.

Divxplayer announced it will expand it's range of products with Synology as
well beside the Infrant. QNAP might also be a model listed soon...

Enjoy

Hi,

I have a KiSS DP-558 and a DP-1600. I will visit divxplayer this weekend, to see what they have got on stock. Last weekend I was there, and they were changing there showroom, because they have expanded their range of products. They told me they would start with the NAS servers next month, but it seams it was earlier.

But..... any idea which of the brands is suitable for me? I searched the forum, and it is not very clear to me.. Maybe I did search enough, but still I hope someone can give me an advice.

Main purpose is to stream movie files (avi/mpeg) with subtitles, and ISO DVD would be nice (for DP-1600)

So, Thecus, Netgear infrant, or Synology? Or even NSLU2 from Linksys. I know pricing are verry different, but I want to have a good solution, and if it costs 1 euro, or 1000.. I will have to deside wich have the best price/quality antway.

Daves.

Hi Daves,

For the KiSS 1600 you fall short in options and it does not support SMB or
DVD ISO. you can bypass the limitations with software but even then, the
support is basic (thanks to the scene this is provided in kissdx by Vit).

Streaming over uPnP is a second worry as also there the KiSS does not
support uPnP with subtitles. Lucky again for the scene, you could use
DP500Serv installed on a Synology server that offers most of your
streaming needs but again "no ISO DVD".

Synology is the mid priced solutions which currently seems to offer most of
your needs. (1 disk, 2 disk and 4 disk so you can have your pick). Notice
that for MPC, the DSxx6 series have been tested. I'm not up to speed if
the same tutorial and options as released by me are the same on the DS-XX7 series... Also the NSLU2 would be great for this (also runs DP500Serv if
modified) but I personally don't like the cabling for the unit and hard drives
attached to it...

Check around a bit more and maybe read some of the reviews

If you have any further questions afterwards, we'll still be here
