Ellion HMR-700A review out now! (Update)
Another fine introduction to a new player on the market bringing both media player capabilities and recoding functions into 1 device for a very low price of €250 and below. An entry level product that does indeed offer medium quality components and yet does not dissapoint in functionality and performance in my humble opinion. We got one, we played with it and we wrote up a review / introduction on the Ellion HMR-700A which you can use as a first introduction to the player. The player will start popping up on Internet shops very soon. Any questions can be discussed in the Ellion forums afterwards... For it's balance and features, we ware close to offering best Buy but then there's not enough competition in this range and it is practically the only buy you have. So, we decided to offer it the "Value 4 Money" reward as it does offer just that...

Thanks Hi-Jack for your great work, as usual.
I'm going to read your review for which I consider a good player and recorder with curiosity.
But I have to say that I'm still in trouble with my unit. Nobody help me from Ellion support and after first bla bla bla emails from them (thanks to Divxplayer_NL for the contact) it's more than a week that I have no answer about my firmware request I made to them.
My brother Marco and I will write soon a tasty tread about Ellion support that does not support.
Regards.
Carlo

Ellion review: Update
Ellion has read the review made by MPC on the HMR-700A and has sent us some corrections on features we missed and offered some deeper explanation about features we found awkward or missing. We will be making an update to the review in the coming days (time is my enemy) but already offer you a short update using this news bulletin, including the comments we sent back to them about the corrections.
About the subtitle limitations we discussed, it seems there is actually a function to make subtitles bigger and assign colors to them by using the Left/Write arrow buttons (size) and pressing "enter" (white, yellow, red, blue). Also moving the subtitles is available. All options should be used while subtitles are shown in display. The only missing feature is thus a Time Sync option when subtitles become OOS. The Aspect Ratio of the images discussed in the review, according to Ellion, is caused by incorrect TV settings. One should set the TV to 4:3 to reach full screen even on a 16:9 TV.
The missing options for setting resolution in the setup menus is done on purpose to avoid frustration from customers setting wrong resolutions. Even though with implementing the setup options the TV MODE could resolve the issue, Ellion has chosen to nor implement these and stick to the TV Mode only. The following settings apply to TV Mode button:
*1) Interace SD (480i, 576i) : Composite (RCA or SCART), RGB (SCART), YCbCr (Component)
*2) Progressive SD (480P, 576P) : YCbCr (Component)
*3) High Def : (720P or higher) : Component, or HDMI
The question on deleting files is resolved as well. The files cannot be deleted directly but "moved" to the recycle bin which is actually causing the files to be deleted. It is a slightly different approach but does offer the ability to remove files as far as the read/write partitions are concerned as the NTFS is read only.
The new version (RC2) will be launched tonight or tomorrow at the latest. Reflecting an even more thrutfull interpretation of the Ellion HMR-700A.
Enjoy
Hi-Jack

Excuse me Hi-Jack,
I don't understand if today or tomorrow you will launch a new version of the
review or if Ellion support will launch a new version of the firmware.
I'm asking it because I need to reload the firmware (new or old) on my unit.
I will be grateful if you ask them about the future of the download section of their web site
(now it is empty) and about the lack of support I experimented in the last three weeks.
I'm happy that Ellion Support is still alive!
If they want to answer me about my firmware request.....
Regards.
Carlo

Funny, the review of the Ellion HMR-700A starts with:
"this review is intended to be your first and best introduction for the TViX M-
5100SH..."
Otherwise good review as usual.

We copy and paste anf forget to edit that model name
Will reload tomight.
Carlobono...
There was a new release of the review (RC2) with some feedback included
from Ellion. I think there is a new firmware which can be acquired by mailing
Ellion with product code and fw version...
