P-FAIL and remote issue
Hi,
I need some help/information here. I have a TViX 5100, with a SEAGATE 750GB HDD drive build in. The FW is not important, since I have tested the unit with 5 different FW's.
The owner of the device has reported the following problems:
1. Sometimes the remote can't be used, for apr. 5 min. when you power up the unit with the power button on the TViX itsellf. You will not be able to use the remote for a while, or the functions will be availble step by step, the comming minutes after booting.
2. Sometimes a P-FAIL message appears, and the machine will reboot, or have te be rebooted.
But....... I am testing this device from Monday on (4 days now), and have NEVER had any problem with it. Tried over 50x to get the remote problem, and P-FAIL... never happends.
What DID happen, was on my own 4100 I have seen P-FAIL 2 times. We expect (also thx to Hi-Jack) P-FAIL has something to do with PATA. I know the 41/5100 are SATA, but the chipset is intentionaly PATA, and the TViX uses a PATA to SATA bridge.
The owner uses no external HDD, uses a Gigabit network, and watch through HDMI.
I am stuck here, and hope someone has simular problems, and even better, have an explanation for it
Greetings,

I would suggest the user delivers his hard drive to you. P-FAIL sounds like
only possiblility to be PATA fail, so hdd reading, intitialising etc... Without
getting the player exactly as the user has installed it, you won't be able to
reproduce the issues (unless not related to HDD).
Maybe you should go have a coffee there and let him show you the issues...
It's free coffe you know...

I have re-attached the HDD, maybe it had something to do with that... I will test it for one weekend, and if I cannot find anything, I am sorry, but I cannot help him at this point...

Hello..
For the Remote Problem...
I install home theaters, and do custom installs for my job.. As such, I have seen many issues that can occur..
The Remote uses IR, and sounds like maybe something in the customers house is sending out IR to interfere with the TVix.. (since the tvix remote is working perfect in your shop)
I had several customers that Had other remotes loacated in same room as equipment, and those remotes had a book, pillow, pressing a button on the remote, and this messed other remotes. Also, maybe a button is STUCK on some other remote..
Could also be the lighting, sun light, etc.. many factors can effect IR..
Maybe have the customer try the tvix in another room, and see if this corrects the problem..

Hi, thanks!
Yes, this was also my opinion with the remote. For instance, I had huge problems with some players at my shop with remote operating with the IR controller. It seemed that my alarm was jamming it. Also TL light (don’t know if this is correct in English) are a trouble factor.
The strange this, is that the owner says it only occurs when he presses the ON button first ion the player, and not when he uses the remote from the beginning.
