Firmware upgrade does not fall under warranty so hopefully they will accept it.
I'm not aware of a procedure to "safe flash" the device if an earlier flash went
wrong but you can ask this from Ellion support.

I expected to read this eventually as the system is good and cheap, but
difficult and incomplete for several "key" functions and features including the
FW structure is deadly as not every FW is for every unit as warned for before...

(Ellion sends FW updates by serial numbers or something like that to ensure
you receive the proper update) That said, I do not recommend updating unless
directly matched to from Ellion or until its cleared the mess about updates...

Enjoy
Hi-Jack

Have you tried reflashing back to the non beta firmware? There may be an issue with the beta timer version as I have had random info messages saying its timer datbase is damaged (or something like that), even though I have not actually used the timer function.

@efw
You have the same timer error message? Already thought I screwed up the fw update.
Did you get a fw update screen? During my fw update the screen stayed completely black and the power led was blinking forever...

The firmware update screen seems to only appear when viewing via Scart.

I flashed this new Timer Firmware and Had the DB Damaged Warning and the Box kept Crashing everytime I pressed for OTR (one Touch recording).

It became unusable. So I re-flashed to an earlier Non Beta Firmware version 0823P_WS_071005a_For_2.1BD_MP (found on this site), and now it's back in full operation. No timer function , but got the Machine Functioning as intended

EDIT
** One thing that has not returned to normal is a Strobe effect on the Thumbnails in the FAT32 File Browser section. This appeared after the Firmware including Timer Record was Installed and it is still there after the Re-Flash to the Earlier Firmware. It does not appear to effect the playback of the .avi files in the FAT32 partition though, just the Thumbnails

Yeah I also noticed the strobe effect, but mine appears in the NTFS File Browser section.

Just upgraded to a new firmware which is up a folder on the ellion ftp:
1016P233_S0100_A071228a
Obviously it does not have the timer software, but right now I prefer a non crashing system. The strobe effect dissapeared with this fw.

hi guys, i was just in the process of emailing ellion to tell them my box still doesnt reboot after update when i read of an older FWsomewhere in this forum.
is there anywhere that you can get hold of all the released FW's?
just thought it may be handy incase you flash to an unstable one.
im going to try the one mentioned by Got.
0823P_WS_071005a_For_2.1BD_MP
not bothered about any strobe effect just dont want a £100+ brick!!

1 rar file contains all 6 listed in date order

http://rapidshare.com/files/81020416...mware.rar.html

(use at your own risk though)

waiting to download that 1016P233_S0100_A071228a mention by GoT, to give it a try, but ellion FTP is showing to many users connected at the moment
