Default No sound on DivX 3.11

Hey,

I am a complete beginner (at least when it comes to DivX and Kiss players), you might have guessed anyway from my question

I tried to play some DivX on my new DP-1000 and I experienced a problem with all the DivX 3.11 (Low motion), as there was no sound. All the other DivX (4 or 5) worked fine.

Is there something about the bit-rates or freq. that has to be tailored to meet the Kiss' needs ? Or is there another probelm ?

Btw, the bit-rates / freq, of the DivX 3.11 that did not work were the following : 138 kBits/sec 48 KHz, 111 - 44, and 128 - 48.

Is there somewhere a FAQ or a site that tells me what the acceptable (for the Kiss) bit-rates, etc. are ?

Thx for your help / insight !

The DivX codec is for picture, you can use other codecs for sound. The player doesn't support ogg and a few other sound-codecs.

Use Gspot to check which sound codecs are used.

Try to change the output sound from RAW to PCM!
This is done in player Player Setup.

Most of old DivX 3.11 movies had DivX Auduio codec (also known as "old" WMA ) .
KiSS players wan't play this audio codec from AVIs.

Why in the hell people still using this Divx 3.11 codec?

Today I finished downloading two movies both Divx 3.11 low motion:

The Mod Squad

Better Than Chocolate

Both movies fairly new and surly encoded lately.

The quality is good, but I dont understand why use this old codec and not for example the freeware Xvid?

There is a whole "old school" of encoders that believes that DivX 3.11 gives better quality .
I have to admit that sometimes it does but produces green artifacts and such ...

You seem to have to recompres the avi into divx 4 or 5 ( I use 5 ) If someone knows were the problem lies pleas post it but it looks too me to be a compatability issue with kiss and divx3.11

Most surley the problem is with some Divx 3.11 movies and not all Divx 3.11 movies.

What you have to do to solve the problem, is to strip the wav from the movie using Virtual Dub, enter the Wav into Sound editor (like Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition) and save it as Windows Wav, attach it back to the movie using Virtual dub and save the Avi( Video direct stream, Audio full processing and compressing).

It is a work, and the movie should worth it.

Yes, Kiss DVD players have limitations like QPEL or Divx Audio in Divx 3.11, you should learn the player limitation and not burn movies which you know in advance that are with such limitation.

What I recommend to you is to read the Missing Manual from this website, which will enable you the knowledge to operate Your Kiss DVD Player to its maximum available performances.

Hi, how do you have the DivX player connected to the receiver?

When this is via a Digital link (SP/DIF or Digital Coax) you will never hear sound when playing a DivX 3.11 High or Low motion codec movie!

The reason is that KiSS does not support Digital sound output in DivX 3.11 mode.

the analog 2 channel output will work always. so when you want to watch a 3.11 movie, you need to connect the player analog.

By the way, as far as I know. the KiSS does not support DivX Audio codec.

Thx, Langman, for mentioning the fact that there is no sound output via Digital link when playing DivX 3.11. That is for sure very helpful.

In the meantime, I re-encoded the couple of 3.11 movies into DivX 5 and they work fine now.

What I recommend to you is to read the Missing Manual from this website, which will enable you the knowledge to operate Your Kiss DVD Player to its maximum available performances.
I could not find anything in the Missing Manual v.2.2, re the limitations of the Kiss players with regard to 3.11 movies. I can only find the Qpel / GMC specific instructions.

PS Do not get me wrong, the Missing Manual is very helpful !
