Default MKV video playback issues

Hi! First - sorry my english. If my post would be some understandable - pls ask. I'll try say in other words

Player - HDMI 1.3
Problem is: I have MKV-video (30Gb), on USB hard drive (2,5'', 100Gb).
When trying to play I have not smooth play, no sound, pauses.
Changing video output down to 1080p24 - not resolve problem.
TV - Philips 37PFL9732D connected via HDMI.

30Gb sounds quite a large file, what is the Bitrate of it. You say you are running this on a 2.5" drive, these can be slow sometimes, have you tried it off of another drive.
