Default Severe Lag and Buffer

Hi,
I received my IStar today and have set it to just stream from my pc at the moment. Unfortunately, I am getting some severe lag and buffer when doing things. For instance, I have about 8000 songs in ITunes. When I tried to view the artists of this music folder it took fifteen minutes of "waiting" before I gave up and went back to the menu. I then tried to play a couple of MKV 720p films, but they both played for about half a second before doing a 3 second lag - repeating this cycle constantly.

I am using the iHome software to connect at the moment to do all this through a wired ethernet connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this? At the moment it's all a bit disapointing.

For the music, loading 8000 files on a system with only 256 MB is troublesome.
Fact is the chip is mainly for media and not data processing so loading folder
stucture would be easier and limiting the files in a directory to about 1000 is a
best practive method. Often people expect these players to iPod's but fact is
these are mainly video players and do some music and picture stuff as well.

As for streaming HD, use SMB so no software that can become a bottleneck in
between. Just share the folder directly and add the share as source on the
player using the network functions SMB...

there's a lot of info on the forums on how to do so if you annot achieve this using the manual... It's fairly easy to do...

Enjoy
Hi-Jack

This is fine as long as the files you are streaming are not too high a bit rate. I have found SMB fine for some MKV's but have to use Myihome for streaming the higher bitrate files.
