Default icon browsing

I have a 4130 and noticed with firmware 1.4.46 that they improved icon browsing quite a bit from the internal HD. I have just upgraded to 1.4.52 and have noticed that it is no longer displaying all folder icons. After some playing around i have found that the highest res for an icon that it would show was 363x500. As soon as i resized it 364x501 it would not display as folder icon.

I use DVD Profiler to catalog all my DVD/mediafiles and just use the coverart that gets downloaded by it (which is in various res). I will most probably just resize all my coverart but thought i would just put it out there!

have resize all folder.jpg to 88x136 and icon mode works the best that i have seen in any of the fw versions.

just for info here is how i use icon browse mode.

I have a folder called COVERART in the in the root dir of my internal drive, which contains an icon.tvix file.
In the COVERART folder i have a folder for each movie.
In each movie folder, eg Clerks I have a TViX.jpg file and a Clerks.m3u
The contents of the Clerks.m3u file is \VIDEO\Cult\cLeRks[DvDRip]-fessin.avi

This way i can have all of my media sorted into folders under the VIDEO directory but can browse from a single directory and list all the movies with cool coverart.

Hope this is usefull to others!

Hi,

What you mean with "the best"? You load a page of icons (10) from internal HD in less than a second? I mean, like it does from a wired network?

And without being using network for something else at the same time? I say that because if you are using network at the same time, icon browsing works perfectly from internal HD. (Perfectly means load 10 icons in LESS than a second).

"Best" as in with FW 1.3.15 it was unusable, FW 1.4.46 was about 2ish sec and FW 1.4.52 is 1 sec.
Is it less than 1 sec?? don't know if i'd say that (could be close!) but for me the feature is very usable at it's current speed. I can press the >> on the remote and page through screens at a speed that is usable for me.

I don't use network shares at the moment, simply have 500GB drive internal and a 1TB drive that get's connected adhoc via USB

OK fessin. It seems that's working for you. All my icons are about 70x101. I got them from http://www.dvdempire.com It should work since they are smaller than yours. But it doesn't! It takes about 10 to 15 seconds to load each page from internal HD ...

What program you use to resize your icons?

Thanks.

WOW that is bad.......real bad!
I use DVD Profiler to catalog all my movies, store the file name in the Notes field. The software allows for you movie db to be extracted to an xml file. I wrote a vb script to create a COVERART folder in the root directory, traverse my internal HD any file found on disk and in the xml file it creates a directory with the movie name under the COVERTART dir with the name of the movie. It then creates a [movie name].m3u file in the movie folder along with coverart.guikuo which is the coverart downloaded from DVD Profiler and synopsis.guikuo contains the Overview tag for that DVD in the xml.
Once script has finished then i TViX GUI Builder to parse my COVERART directory, with batch mode on and only processing local art/info (therefore it does not go out to the net) which produces the TViX.jpg file in each movie directory.
TViX GUI Builder generates a folder.jpg from coverart.guikuo and automatically resizes folder.jpg to 88x136. Previously i just used the coverart file that DVD Profiler downloads from the net, which is various in size.

I can give you a sample from of my COVERART dir to test out if you like???

Hi fessin. Thank You. It would be nice to those interested if you put sample in this forum. I don't think i can do it your way. It seems very complicated for my knowledge. At least at a first glance... Thanks anyway.

I'll wait that Dvico fix the icon browsing issue as they promised.

I have uploaded a sample from my COVERART dir that you can download an put in the root dir of you internal HD. The m3u file will not work once you click on it as you prob wont have the same movie in the same dir as me
You can edit one of the m3u files via notepad and point it to a file and see how it works. Let me know how fast it goes on yours......i just tested it on my internal drive with just the 30 movies folders in it and you can browse through using the >> in under 3 sec

Hi fessin,

I just downloaded your file. I understood perfectly what you have done and how it works. It will be easy to me to test it. But no much time now. Maybe next weekend. I will post the result. I must plug TViX to my PC via USB to copy your directory and subdirectory because i canīt copy directories over FTP . No time to do it now.

I won't believe it works! But if it does, the only reason is due to icons size...

Please wait until i test it. Thanks again.
