Default Audio missing on some FAT32 files

Hi, I bought an Ellion HMR350H to use as a backup device to my Sky+ box with the added intention of using it to copy these files across the network to my PC. Samba installed on the 350H OK and so my PC can see files that I'd earlier copied to the Ellion's FAT32 partition. So far so good. From my PC I can play files on the Ellion and thus can transfer them to my PC for conversion to DIVX.
However some of the files are missing their audio track. Upon further investigation I noticed that this occurred where the original file in the NTFS partition was greater than 1 hour in length. When copying files from its NTFS partition the Ellion splits each file into 1 hour (roughly 2Gb) chunks for storing in its FAT32 partition. However it loses the audio after the 1st chunk. If the original file is less than 1 hour in length it works fine.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Anyone got a solution?
TIA

Hi;

I don't quite understand this, if you have Samba you can access the NTFS partition to read files and transfer them straight to the PC, but how do they get there from the Sky Box in the first place, didn't think the Ellion could write to NTFS.

Incidentally you can also access the UDF partition file that the ellion writes to when recording if you are using Samba. This might be an answer to your problem.

I think it's somewhere around about /usr/local/etc/hdd/dvdvr/DVD_RTAV or somesuch so you probably need to configure the directory in smb conf as well as setting it as a network place on the pc.

You may be able to edit the smb conf file directly if you have a text editor which will not mess with the file's line ends (I use pspad).

So long as you do each recording and transfer individually, removing each from the record index after copying it should be straightforward. If not, your transfers will be very slow. I think my record file is 30 gig for example.

hope some of this helps. There is info on how to configure samba in a number of places both on this board and others.

Thanks efw.
You are quite correct. The files are copied from the Sky box to the UDF partition, not the NTFS partition as I stated by mistake. I hadn't realised that I can use Samba to access the UDF partition. That will be much handier. I'm looking forward to working on this the first chance I get.
Again thanks.
