Default Newbie question

Hi all,

After reading the clash review on this site. I am interested in buying the HDX 1000. I am really tired of viewing my video collection through the tv-out connection of my 8800GT. I think a good NMT is the answer for this.

Now i have a few questions concerning the HDX 1000 which i cannot quite find the answers to. I hope you guys will help me out.

I have a wireless connection from pc --> router and want the hdx 1000 also to be wireless. Whats the max transfer speed (802.11g)? And if i use a crosscable from pc to hdx 1000?

If i download directly to the HDX 1000 with the bittorrent client provided when installing an internal harddrive (no need to transfer from pc), is there any option the files are automatically unrarred/unzipped.

The internal harddrive must be formatted EXT3 so the NMT applications can be used or is NTFS also possible?

Moving files on the internal harddrive go by the same speed as a harddrive connected to a pc? For example move downloaded movie from /default_download_map to /movies.

I hope someone will take the effort of answering.

ps. Sorry for my english

Network wireless will not be enough. Normal cabled network will be best and both normal and cross link will perform enough for streaming yet transfer rates vary on local setup and will not exceed basic 5 - 6 MB/s. It's not a pc

No, there is no auto unrar / unzip.

No, see first response...

Enjoy

First, thx for the quick reply.

second, what about the transfer speeds when moving files on the internal HDD.

So there is no NMT that uses the full potential of cabled/wireless networks (transfer speeds)? Transfering large files from PC --> NMT can only be achieved by using een external HDD and move around with it or move around with the NMT itself (usb slave)?

Downloading torrent files to the NMT itself can be a solution cause my download speeds will not be higher then 6-8 Mbps. But if you can't extract them there's no use for that. (extracting will be as slow as hell if it could be done i guess).

I want the NMT not to stream files cause i want to be able to turn off the pc...and buying a NAS just to stream files is a little to much for me...

Did i miss something or is full network speed just and illusion for all NMT's and the ones that come in the near future. I think most people don't want to stream from a PC or NAS but just want to "fast" copy there large (downloaded) movies/series to a device that can play them.

Any thoughts ..

USB is the fastest option for transfers, Ftp over network got me about 1Mbit so took about 20 mins to copy over Benjamin Button from PC ..>> HDX1000
about 1.4 gig. But wasn't bothered as just let it run and went for some food! :P

I will be using it for torrenting and newsgroups when I learn about news groups that is!!
Reason being that I can switch off pC and get rid of seedbox I think the HDX100 consumes about 13 watts??!! so much cheaper than leaving PC on!!
I'm under the impression that there is a way to unrar in the NMT but here its dog slow so will prolly just use my memory stick unrar at the PC then put back on HDX1000

Hi jack has wrote a guide to transfer files faster haven't read it thoroughly but its in the forum somewhere..

If you just want to fast copy as you say to a device that can play them, then go through USB direct to PC

Jocky

Hope this helps

maybe not for bittorrent. but if you just switch to usenet downloads, auto-unpacking is available which is quite nice.

Update on transfer speeds

Connected via wireless N dongle and mapped as a network drive then used Tera copy for transfer, to begin with I got 1MB/s then after about 30 secs went through roof to 88MB/s!!!!
However some of the files won't play as I think the box froze! Shame, I hope they can fix this in a new firmware release!!

Jocky

If I can upload a file I can provide a screen shot!
Just can't find where to!!

Upload an image to your own webspace or pictureservcie and make a link to it with the "Img" button

Your copy speed is from NMT>PC I guess? (not PC>NMT)
