Default Windows 7

Hi!

Maybe someone noticed this already, but I'm having trouble when using Windows 7 to share a folder and try to access it from the Ellion HMR-350H.

I'm using a dual boot PC and there's no problem when accessing that same shared folder under Windows XP. 8O

I'm suspicious that Microsoft should have changed something on the smb protocol on this new version (Windows 7) so that anything that is not running Microsoft's software can't access their folders.

I hope I'm wrong!

Anyone tried?

Maybe it's not due to SMB but due to security settingsm firewalls and permissions... I have no Windows 7 so can't try unfortunately... can you ping the ellion's IP and does it reply?

Google for " Windows 7 Samba " and you get (many) hits in return!

Hi! Hellion is right since I can reach it from XP and it can reach my PC when running XP. Thank you for your prompt answer but this problem only occurs when trying to access from Hellion to Windows 7 (not otherwise, pinging from Windows 7 to Hellion is Ok).

I already tried to tweak some policies as a result of googling as you said.

Just to leave a print for anyone interested, here's what I did:
  • Start gpedit.msc
    ...then go to:
    -> Console Root
    --> Local Computer Policy
    ---> Computer Configuration
    ----> Windows Settings
    -----> Security Settings
    ------> Local Policies
    -------> Security Options
    ...then locate:
    Microsoft network client: Send unencrypted password to third-party SMB server, and set to "Enabled".
    ...then locate:
    Network security: LAN Manager authentication level, and set it to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".
    ...then locate:
    Minimum session security for NTLM SSP, and disable "Require 128-bit encryption".
Unfortunately none of that helped

I guess I must keep on googling.........

Remove the stored credentials for the Samba share in Control Panel -> Credential manager.

So the whole process is:

Network security:
LAN Manager authentication level --> Send LM & NTLM responses
Minimum session security for NTLM SSP --> Disable Require 128-bit encryption
Credential manager --> Remove stored credentials

I found solution!! For thousands of those who have similar problems with different kind of streamers and media players, that cannot access shared folders on Windows 7 computers:

In the following paragraph, we use ‘MACHINE’ instead of ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE’.
First, click on “Start”. Type the command:
–>regedit
… and execute it.
Look for and modify these parameters as the following:
MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\
On the right side find ‘everyoneincludesanonymous’; change the value to 1
Find ‘NoLmHash’ and change the value to 0
MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanManSe rver\Parameters ‘restrictnullsessaccess’; change the value to 0
Close the registry editor and restart the computer.
