If
I had to wrap up the Bollo NMP-MOB in one word, I'd say "Criminal" and I do mean
it in a good sense. The presentation absolutely rocks including the carrying
case and all cables in one neat little package to take on the road. Build around
the Sigma SMP8635 chip, it's not one of the most powerful units out there to
release today as everyone went ahead on Realtek and newer chips, however for a
portable unit which the Bollo NMP-MOB is, it's more than fine. It brings you
true HD on the road, it's small, build well (not just cheap plastic) and has
everything you need. Well maybe the remote might be a little troublesome due to
it's small size (how will it handle all the features we need) but other than
that, the package is simply "out of this world" for the targeted MSRP of €149.
While Advocate86 will handle the full review, I'll be playing the role of
underdog adding my feedback on the unit only afterwards and in the mean time,
treat you with this little presentation of the Bollo NMP-MOB.
Inside the carrying case we find the small but attractive
little Bollo NMP-MOB that measures only 148x89x24mm. The case is aluminum alloy
and not the usual plastic we get thrown our way for a portable player. What's
more? The unit incorporates a HDMI 1.3a connection (the first to our knowledge
to do so), component and S-Video. The unit also has a optical audio output
whereas Stereo is used on the Composite output. Maybe the only little question
mark we place with the component and Composite outputs which are of the "mini
jack" type. Usually this delivers a bit less quality but hey... it's small and
there's no option to include the separate tulip connectors we are used to.

The power connection is on the side of the unit whilst in
front we find the USB slave port, the IR receiver and the two led showing us
power and activity. The rear is where all the other connections are including a
USB host. The unit is held together with 4 mini screws that keeps the top lid in
place. It looks as if though we risk to remove them, something might go wrong
using normal screw drivers as they are tiny. Hence why there's a screw driver
included to use for that purpose. Well done, Bollo... Why would we do open the
unit? There's room inside to put in a hard drive, 2.5" off course. Bollo was so
kind including a hard drive in the sample unit.

The remote control is small and the battery is already inside
(round battery like in watches, but bigger). Cables you need are all included
from power to composite to USB to Component. Only HDMI cable is something you
should get yourself and that's where a little problem comes to live... Where do
we put that inside the carrying case? Well, it still fits with some efforts and
making use of the smaller HDMI cables. So in the end... this is a neat little
package with everything included that provided true HD on the road... Easy, well
built and decent product. Now let's hope the inside of the player is as good as
the inside of this carrying case delivered to us.

We have been longing for some originality from brands since a
long time and although the first Bollo NMP-SE was quite original by design, it
was unappealing to me personally so the opposite of what I want. This package
however is spot-on brilliant, its sexy...! My girlfriend sleeps with a teddy
bear... I'll start sleeping with this! Make room honey...
Now If I'm allowed to be just a little negative and say this... it would rock even more with network connection so it can serve at home as full flexed player too. Network sharing using NFS and SMB would have truly made this option fit for any environment. and instantly would state to all other brands "Look what we can do" . A missed chance... but maybe a tip for a V2
