Mvix owners Abandoned?
Hi all,
I wonder if we could get some official comment from Mvix why they have abandoned Mvix owners. Mvix officials are not even posting in their own mvix.net forum or answering the questions of the owners. Now posts from owners asking for answers are being deleted - it looks like Mvix has truly left the building...
I bought a MvixPVR earlier this year (supposed to be the latest and greatest)and it has been nothing but problems.
So many features that were promised have not been implemented, in fact futher promises of features to be developed have never been fulfilled. Just more promises and lies to sell more junk to the gullible and uninformed.
Mvix - where have you gone?
Ah - you have now a new name - Xtreamer!
Back with more promises I see, but what about us Mvix owners who paid twice the price for a lesser product? You took our money and ran, now we are left with a half-baked product that you have no desire to finish... I am losing faith in anything these guys have to say...
Hi-Jack - you have a lot of respect in the media player industry and you seem to be aware of all that's going-on in media-land. Do you know what has happened? Are Xtreamer going to do the same thing to their consumers? Isn't Unicorn behind both the Mvix and Xtreamer products? What does George Lee have to say about this - he's the director of Unicorn isn't he? So many questions needing answers.
I don't mean to come pollute your forums with all this moaning, but we (Mvix Owners) are just not getting answers any more and our requests are being either ignored or deleted. Perhaps your forum has a more objective approach and we can use this as a soap-box to call for help... without the risk of having our posts edited or deleted when the truth doesn't meet with Mvix's approval...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Yes, they are behind both products... I agree on MViX products, compared to competition they are weaker and badly supported however Xtreamer we see different from the big pile of products MViX releases. They made quite bad decisions and products did not live up to what people needed general...
MViX has lost quite some business in the last 12 months based on not having decent HD players that can compete with the big names, hardly any decent updates or community behind it although they sell quite well in certain regions...
With the Xtreamer, the whole working model has changed and hopefully it will be to the best for the consumer. This does not help you as an owner of the other models though.
Post away as long as it remains constructive... Before we get in touch with MViX, we'd need more data as frankly, overall we don't have that many MViX users here (xtreamer yes, MViX no) since we not actually enlist them as one of the top models to get...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
What you are stating is exactly why i sold my MvixPVR shortly after i got it. I won it during the MPC anniversary and spent a few months before i got it in the Mvix forums. I was amazed by the total lack of support and firmware updates. The frustration from users in the forum indicated that the best thing was to sell it immediately. This is the main thing (and noise issue) that’s stopping me from buying Xtreamer - i really want to see them deliver this time. However i agree with Hi-jack that they seem to have a different approach regarding the Xtreamer, but they have to prove it! I think that the Mvix brand is slowly going to die as the competition is too hard (and total lack of support), not only from their own Xtreamer but the massive amount of players on its way to the market.
MvixPVR - sell it fast as hell
Xtreamer - i actually believe that they can succeed; the price and new very interesting products coming will attract customers. However I can see warning signs all over the place - firmware development don't have the promised pace and all the unanswered questions about eTRAYz. One day they promise information about eTRAYz in a few days.....weeks later there is nothing released. From my point of view it’s better not to promise unless you are very sure that you can deliver.

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
It's why we launched that super quote stating it's time for Xtreamer to put something in our hands and not in our heads... They got carried away by their own excitement there for a while in my opinion but it still looks promising... Delay in firmware is sad as the the "more mature" chip 1283 is actully less performing than the overall considered "weaker" 1073 (they are actually the same as far as we know except for the recording abilities in the 1283)...
There's a lot of work to do...

I agree 100% every previous posts here!!!!!
I am a frustratet MVIX PVR owner too. What can I say.
The biggest frustration is that Uncorn leave us PVR owner alone.
I write also an Letter to Mvix Germany, but they are quite too.
I think everybody must know what going on on the MVIX swamp of empty Promisis.

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Hi all around,
I was the owner of the MviX PVR, but as almost nothing worked properly and was not doing what it was supposed to, and after what I had read in the forum, I used my right and returned the unit within the first two weeks after purchase.
After the great experience I had with the MviX 760/780 I thougth it was riskless to step up to the PVR...
I cannot understand what happend with Unicorn. The continous develpment of the 760 encouraged me to stick with that brand.
Besides all the known bugs, I tried activating the DivX functionality. As I was told that the code was incorrect I directly contacted the wholesaler as well as DivX Supoort. DivX said that the PVR is not on their list of suitable products not fullfilling the requiered performance. I forwarded the message to the wholesaler and expect him to get in ouch with his suplier to get that fixed.
I wish you all the best of luck and hope that a decent firmware will come soon, so that the PVR lives up to it's promises and your expectations.
Now I await my popcorn hour C-200 and am selling my DivX 760HD (with most actual firmware of 780) equipped with a 300GB Samsung spinpoint.

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
I will invest some time next week and see to get in touch with MViX to check what further plans they have with the MViXPVR. (in fact I told them directly at CES Las Vegas, i did liked the concept but the firmware levels were far underdeveloped to make it more than an interesting product)
We'll see what comes out...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Thanks Hi-Jack
If they could provide the source code, etc. as one poster in the Forum has requested ( http://www.mvix.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1578 ) then at least there is a fighting chance for a future within the community. They have been promising source code for years now and they have posted as much in their own forums - very similar in fact to what they have promised in Xtreamer forums.
If Unicorn originally intended to launch the Xtreamer under the Mvix brand (as MvixMCE) then is says to me that they had every intention of abandoning Mvix altogether from the outset. This says to me that they are not ethical in their business dealings by abandoning both Mvix owners and distributors - what sort of a business tactic is that to keep quiet on the Mvix front and expect their Xtreamer brand coming from the same source (hidden behind a facade of gmail accounts), to be trusted?
It seems that Unicorn took on too much with all their promises and 'good intent' and then, when it all looked like it was too much for them, they just jump ship, abandoning all Mvix owners who had in good faith bought what they thought was a functional and supported product...
Yes, I am angry, as is every other owner out there - just browse through their forums and you'll see what kind of response they are getting - well, those posts that haven't (yet) been deleted...
Come on guys - you have our money, now do your part and give us what we paid for - what you have promised in your own official forums through your own staff...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
As explained an awfull lot of time, open source code will bring you nothing except some on the side tools thjat could be added, nothing that improves playback etc as nothing can be output without the DSK from RealTek / Sigma and that is not allowed to be published (is not open source materials)

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
I'm another frustrated Mvix PVR owner, bought mine earlier this year and things looked promising with the release of a few new firmwares and active "talk" on their forum.
Now, no updates and no responses on their forums. In fact they have taken to deleting negative posts.
How do you think they are going to behave with Xtreamer?
I wouldn't hold my breath.
Come on Unicorn, speak to us
