Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
They are speaking to us a lot, just not about the MvixPVR (sarcastic)

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Ok, we wrote to Unicorn's CEO to get a reaction on all this...
As far as I understood these are the main problems?
-Simultaneous recording and playback does not function and crashes, unlike specifications state it can
-Time Shift crashes
-Hard drive corruption after crashes
-FTP does not function
-Remote control seems to interfere with other equipment a lot
-Compatibility issues with the iPod
We will follow up and ask information on expected updates and everything. I can only assume Unicorn does not want to be considered as unsupportive given their interest in Xtreamer at this time. If MViXPVR product is not supported (which we still consider a recent product), then automatically this will cause us to doubt their ability into supporting the other products, regardless if these are called MViX or Xtreamer...
Support is key... so let's see what they can tell us and what we should expect...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Things go rather fast... MViX will look into issues and agrees several things need updating. They will be soon giving us more information and updates will come however no timeline is offered... Use this thread to report the problems that bug you most so we can have an overview of what needs being done... It can help to check the severity of the complaints...
Right now it's a "he says this" and they "say that" and I know not much
So inform me of the issues and we'll go after them...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
There are a list of issues here with links:
http://www.mvix.net/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1340&PN=1
BUGS:
YouTube movies not displaying - Fixed in fw release v1.0.7 & broken again
IPod Control doesn't work after LCD upgrade to ver.6
iPod not charging
PVR Freezes on File Delete
File listing name order (capitals precede lower-case letters)
OUTSTANDING FEATURES (PROMISED):
Internet Radio (part of MvixLive)
Mvix Live
Single partition HDD
iPhone GUI and Files on TV / Ipod menu output on TV
Integrated Download / Torrent Manager
Mvix Movie Jukebox
Sling Remote Recording Function (Virtual Remote)
Backup facility
(Many of these features were promised by Mvix, as the respective links will show!!
Unless of course these links have since been deleted, as so many posts have been 'disappearing'...
They have taken the money from earned Mvix owners and poured it into another product in Xtreamer and just left Mvix to rot and die...
Thanks Hi-Jack for taking up our cause!

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Just want to add that i thought it was a nice device, but recording via composite seems outdated. Interface was nice with preview of movies, and music section is way better than popcorn. But since i did not need recording and don't use iPod (and it cant play HD) it did not satisfy me. Its not a bad product. And i think we are spoiled with the frequent firmware updates from Syabas (popcorn)....if you don't count the last half year. Lets see if unicorn can keep up the pace with Xtreamer. I'm ordering one tonight since my two Popcorn A100 are sold, only my B110 still at home

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Hi-Jack, thank you very much for helping us (MvixPVR users) to communicate with Mvix. As listed in the previous post, several months ago, the PVR user community at the mvix forums created a list of bugs/promised features.
I bought the PVR for streaming/playing movies and the iPod functionality and the fact it was delivered "ready-to-use". At the time I bought the device I was not familiar with playing HD-content. I think I raised my standards after using the device... With the knowledge I have now, I would not buy a Mvix device (certainly not for the price I paid).
My major problem is that (wireless)-streaming is not possible without any stutters. Mvix claims that the any codec is playable using MvixFTS. However, next to the streaming issues, in order to transcode in real-time a HD content file a high-end PC is required...
I think that Mvix/Unicorn should realise that the Xtreamer succes would not be possible without the Mvix customers. So they should not let them standing out in the cold....
Again, Hi-Jack, thank you very much for your effort

I had no problems streaming at least "ordinary" dvd-iso via wireless. Do not remember if it was connected via smb or if NFS worked. If you have problems look over your setup. Or if you specify your problems here someone might help.

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
For sure I can tell you any heavy files will not be able to stream over Wireless... It's necessary to understand marketing language a little with these things as "streaming any file with software X over network" can apply to cabled lan and not wireless so such statements are both right and wrong...
In the mean time, we were able to get some more info and confirmed MViX is working on an update for both Xtreamer and MViXPVR by fixing Youtube. If i remember correctly some players have Youtube issues since YouTube recently changed protocols (we seen multiple players with YouTube issues because of it).
We have no timelines or info on what will be addressed but requested some more info so if we get any, we'll post it...

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
Hi-Jack,
Thanks for following up on the MvixPVR as I believe the Mvix forum has become to polluted with miss information about UNICORN intention with this product, and it is good the get some direct words.
Can I suggest though that request made about faults and features with the unit that require firmware upgrades to repair be firstly addressed against the user manual and published sales information. I read in the forum and others people venting at UNICORN about faults with the unit which are features and abilities that were not indicated in the product information in the first place and were assumptions.
There is plenty that Unicorn have on their plate just to bring it back up to the specifications that they sold it under, such as all ipod generation support, download manager, utube functionality etc.
I am a supporter of this product and am willing to give the guys the time to polish up the unit, as the pricing of the unit was fare cheaper than alternatives on the market at the time for its capabilities.
Most features work on my unit and I believe a lot of people have given it a bad rap purely because they don't have the technical know how to replace the lack of support to explore the full capabilities of the unit or configure networking etc.
I also believe that the more everyone strikes out at the unit about individual configuration faults the less likely UNICORN will be able to sell thus allocate time to support and develop the unit and we are at risk of becoming our own enemy.
Anyway I look forward to further news you receive on the MvixPVR as I still believe it has a lot of potential.
Kind Regards,

Re: Mvix owners Abandoned?
I know for Youtube recently changing protocols so Unicorn must not have a hard time fixing the Youtube stuff... The iPod dock should work as advertised and the PVR functions must work properly as well as advertised (meaning timeshift etc should stop crashing... I don't know how severe the problems are but I keep bumping against these so they make up for the top3 of the fixes Unicorn should be addressing)
The iPod GUI on TV and everything heavily depends on licensing from Apple + the hardware must support that which i'm note sure the PVR can do... I know at CES when discussing with MViX on the PVR we mentioned that and it was a "no go" on that part. Internet radio is not that hard to add in some form and the other stuff I consider gadgets.
MvixLive
Single partition HDD
Integrated Download / Torrent Manager
Mvix Movie Jukebox
Sling Remote Recording Function (Virtual Remote)
Backup facility
Single partition HDD will be difficult considering the recordings need being made and editted (usually has a three partition disk FAT32, UDF and NTFS). Backup facility... connect player to the PC and backup the data.... Sling remote function, dunno... Software additions like torrent and the movie jukebox.. dunno either... Those are mostly software based additions and do not change the player... so i'm concentrating on what makes the player better and more stabe...
We requested more info but so far haven't got any as the responses were positive but no details or reasonable expectations were given... We keep following up on the MViXPVR as we do link the support with the other products coming out of the new partnerships behind the Xtreamer (which we shouldn't do according to Xtreamer but we still do...)
Future will tell... Will certainly take several weeks to come up with something so a little patience is still needed...
