Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Apple - Movie Trailers (online via Internet)
Hi guys,
I have some positive information about Dune 3.0
I tested some enhanced streaming capabilities of this mediaplayer and I want info about it
Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV)
streaming from linux based satellite HD receiver Dreambox via LAN to Dune 3.0
- using editing the file dune_folder.txt - I add correct http stream with PIDs
- SD channels - no problem, flawlessly
- HD channels (up to 13Mbps)- no problem, flawlessly
- only little long waiting during initialing streaming (about 1 min.)
This feature is not usable for normal TV watching (not solved the switching of channels), but maybe somebody helps in some cases, when only Dune 3.0 is installed - no TV tuner (fitness, pools, ...)
Missing additional functionality for switching of channels on Dreambox. Itīs possible to solve it via iPhone / iPod Touch such as remote controls via WiFi.
Exists many (4) native apps on this platform for controlling Dreambox. Remote control is two-way - on iPhone you can list all stored channel on Dreambox, read the EPG for each channel, switching the channel.
Only whats missing for fully implementation - remote controlling Dune via IP.
Streaming recorded TV content from NAS
I tested playing on Dune samples of recorded HDTV -any problem, including HD content.
Some other mediaplayers has problems with MPEG-TS files recorded from HDTV.
Apple - Movie Trailers (online via Internet)
Software MyMovies, except tagging the movies for GUI of Dune, add the ""shortcast" for movie traileirs by Apple :

I tested play many trailers - without problem. The quality of trailers is not the best.
I donīt check which quality MyMovies use for it.

Re: Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Apple - Movie Trailers (online via Internet
Thanks Rudku. I don't have our 3.0 yet, but is there an app/way to browse current Apple Trailers online for viewing ? I would almost think no since the Inet browser was removed from the app list for the 3.0s. I just remember back in the XBMC days being able to launch an app that would poll the Apple Trailers site and pull back a list to choose from and watch. It was great.

Re: Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Movie Trailers (online via Internet
Sorry for my mistake about Apple Movie Trailers.
I had a more time detailed look on it.
Trailer works, streaming online from Internet, trailers are in SD quality. But programmers of MyMovies donīt use the Apple Movie Trailers but use trailers from: uk.filmtrailer.com
Again sorry for incorrect information. Seems very similar such as real application Apple Movie Trailers in XBMC.
I tested the HD trailers from Apple Movie Trailers today:
- trailers with higher resolution 1080 in MOV format works without problem - streaming locally from NAS (manually downloaded)
Iīm still testing on-line streaming, but without success.
The app donīt exists.
Maybe only one way exists, which goes the software MyMovies:
- generating folders with name of trailer
- in this folder 2 files: .Icon.aai (icon) and dune_folder.txt:
icon_path=.Icon.aai
media_url=http://uk.clip-1.filmtrailer.com/2665_6352_a_5.wmv?log_var=110/55115/-&rand=51955721
icon_dx=0
icon_dy=0
icon_valign=top
When we find solution for online streaming trailers from Apple Movie Trailers, then somebody must write application for computer, which prepare and store icons and links in Dune format. See above.

Re: Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Apple - Movie Trailers (online via Internet
Hi,
Could you elaborate a little more on how you did this ? I'm still trying to figure out how this works. I have the IPTV icon on my main screen, and also set the 'hide system files' to no. Where is the dune_folder.txt file is located ? If I ftp to the dune, I can't find it anywhere.
Does your explaination make use of the IP TV icon on the Dune anyway, or do you create an additional shortcut on the main screen, with this contents in it ?
I'm also trying to figure out how I can add channels to the internet radio item on the main screen. I need to find the correct file to add the streaming URL's to, which I believe is more or less the same approach...
Maybe rather silly questions, but I googled allready quite a bit on this, and did not get a lot further then explainations on how the dune_folder file works, but no how to get to the right one...
Thanks,
Hans

Re: Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Movie Trailers (online via Internet
So noone's been able yet to stream an apple trailer by using the media_url addressing of something like,
media_url=http://movies.apple.com/movies/disney/princeofpersia/princeofpersia-tlr1_720p.mov

You can easy test it oneself...
... somewhere in root (local HDD, USB HDD, Network share) create directory, name f.e. TRAILERS...
... in this directory unzip attached file "Alice in Wonderland.zip"
... thatīs it ...
... via Dune go to directory TRAILERS, here you can see one icon - click on it ...
... after your practical test, you can look inside to folder "Alice in Wonderland", and you will understand technique...

... this was a second thing, whatīs I tried...
... first one was test, if Dune can play HD MOV format (OK, no problem)...
 with this link in dune_folder.txt (I tested higher 1080 trailer and lowest 480 too) Dune show: PLAY, ERROR and then RESTART

Re: Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Apple - Movie Trailers (online via Internet
How easy is building application for Apple Movie Trailers showing file in attachment.
Itīs XML file from XBMC generated after query to Apple Movie Trailers.
In this file is all needed - information about movie, links to covers, links to trailer, ...
I mean, that we can forgot run it on Dune:
1) Firstly, http links for streaming files in MOV format donīt work.
... maybe is a bug, and dump file help HDi solve it...
2) Dune donīt handle with XML file, and currently any internet browser functions
3) for icons use Dune own special format between JPG
... but Iīll happy, if Iīm wrong ...

You really need to read up on icon browsing implementation for the Dune players. Start here :
http://dune-hd.com/firmware/
go to Misc then read through the dune_folder_howto.txt document.

1. I think you are right, but there is always hope that they can fix it
2. True, but this can be worked around through an app to run on a PC/Mac
3. Same as for #2, also HDI reported that it is possible for them to implement .jpg icons in addition to the aai format due to the higher processing power of the 3.0s.
It wouldn't be that hard to write a perl script that would poll/pull the xml from Apple, parse it and generate a folder structure on a target drive that contained the necessary files (icons and dune_folder.txts), but that is worthless until HDI gets the MOV file streaming fixed. Although the same app could grab the trailer itself too, but I would not want to waste precious storage for trailers that I may only watch once.

Re: Streaming - LiveTV (local via IPTV) / Apple - Movie Trailers (online via Internet
I hope, that the crash during playback a MOV file via http protocol from Apple Movie Trailers is bug.
Iīm adding the dump file in attachment. Testing this line:
media_url=http://movies.apple.com/movies/disney/aliceinwonderland/aliceinwonderland-tsr1_480p.mov
XML file, which I posted above, is a result of parser script (wrote in python).
XBMC "only" show this XML file.
So only take this parser and output the same way such as do the MyMovies software...
On other side of view, QNAP has mediaplayer NMP-1000, based on older Sigma chip SMP8635.
... and QNAP add this functionality in one of firmware upgrade...
Apple Movie Trailers
The NMP-1000 allows you to access the latest Apple movie trailers for upcoming and recent movies and experience the theatrical excitement with your HDTV.
Then - maybe is possible add this functionality directly to built-in features of Dune 3.0
We must ask for this HDi, such as wish.
