Arrow Bugs and Wishes on Dune BD Prime 3.0

This is the new and official Bug Thread managed by rudku to be kept clean and constuctive. If you experience issues you can report these here. This thread is only for SOFTWARE BUGS AND WISHES and not for discussing hardware issues and problems.

Alway include some reproduction steps if applicable.

This is the "only" official bugthread on MPC concerning the HDI Dune BD Prime 3.0 player. The bugs found are checked, reproduced and reported by us automatically to HDi... Please be as complete as you can always including firmware version, bug description and possibly reproduction steps / settings where applicable.

This is not a discussion thread... Discuss the bugs outside this sticky which purposes only "listing" the bugs... so we can easily let HDi know what's wrong at this time... Please check the links to this bugs for the discussion threads so we don't go creating new threads for the same bugs...

GENERATING DEBUG DUMP FILE (HOW TO REPORT PROBLEMS)

Before report your problem, please check setting in your player, which is described above.
Finally, if the problem is still not solved, if possible, please generate a debug dump file (press 3 times A button in any writable folder) after playback and send it to Hdi, preferably together with the output of mediainfo or a link to a problematic file sample.
Here are the detailed instructions for generating and sending debug dump files:

BUGTRACK

BD loader
- B-BD-001 - Adjust spinning of loader | Potential solution: | FW 091211_1311_beta | When BD drive is not used, the disc is spinned down automatically on some timeout, and also immediately when stopping playback.
- B-BD-002 - Eliminate the noisiness during playback some discs | Substitute solution: Self made modifications: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23047.
- B-BD-003 - Improve reading capability and reliability of all kinds of discs (Audio CD, DVD, BD) | Potential solution: | FW loader HJBQ | Patch for upgrade FW for loader to latest version HJBQ

Movie playback (VIDEO issues)
- B-MOVV-001 - DVD playback - setting Audio OFF via HDMI - pink picture | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Solved Bugfix: The setting "HDMI audio = off" could cause severe problems with HDMI output.
- B-MOVV-002 - Automatic frame rate - work correctly only in File player (MKV, M2TS, AVI, MOV), but donīt work in BD player and DVD player (playback from optical disc, network streaming ISO & Folder structure). | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Implemented autoframerate also for DVD-Video and Blu-ray content.
- B-MOVV-003 - HDMI sync/shake video issues | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Added a new Setup Option (Video / Advanced / HDMI CEC) allowing to enable/disable HDMI CEC.
- B-MOVV-004 - Blu-ray playback [all] add ZOOM functionality
- B-MOVV-005 - Freezing when skippping from 4xFF to next step. experienced with several AVIs with different codecs via SMB.
- B-MOVV-006 - Very slow buffering of large .ts h264 files (10 seconds to launch)
- B-MOVV-007 - Blu-ray playback - Stopping playback - the screen says “Please Wait” for minutes (counter stays on display) even the drive spins down -> then when screen goes black (display shows stop) and you press arrow key on remote, display shows (Error Restart) and the dune returns to the menu. | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Solved Bugfix: Blu-ray playback could hangup when disconnecting/reconnecting HDMI cable, switching off/on the attached HDMI equipment, or switching HDMI input on the attached HDMI equipment.
- B-MOVV-008 - HDMI issue with settings 1080p 50Hz/60Hz -TV goes randomly black for 1 or 2 seconds, no message from TV that it is looking for input signal (normally shown when switching HDMI input).
This happens while playing movies and even in the file browser when something is moving on the screen (like browsing files or a scrolling filename)
- B-MOVV-009 - When navigating in an AVI container, Dune doesn't seem tu use indexes because moving in the movie is a real pain and will last forever. The first time this happenned I thought it was my Lan or my AVI. I tried several movie on an USB disk and they all show the same problem. Whenever you move in the movie, dune seems to read the whole movie in between rather than using the indexes.
- B-MOVV-010 - DVD playback has black bars around the movie (not only on the bottom and on the top). Only with zoom button to see the movie on the whole screen.
- B-MOVV-011 - Playback MKV files from DVD disc - MKVs of up to around 3Gb size play OK when burned to a DVD, MKVs bigger than 3.5-4Gb only play sound, black screen with the filename on it. The very same file plays OK from the network. Original DVDs and BDs play OK, just big MKVs burned to a DVD have this issue.
- B-MOVV-012 - AVI playback (juddering during playback, the audio is ok, but the video "hangs") | Confirmed by HDi: Dune support for AVI files (mostly used for SD video) is not very good, and sometimes it can not properly handle broken AVI files having no proper index structures, so it needs to scan through the file (read a lot of data) to do a time seek, and it may take a while.
This is the standard behavior of Sigma SDK, and we unfortunately have very little control on this. We'll look if some improvements are possible, but this is currently unclear.
| Potential solution: | The easiest way to solve/workaround this problem would be to recode such problematic AVI files using some PC software, to make them properly indexed (or maybe even to put them into another container, e.g. MKV)

- B-MOVV-013 - Playback DVD disc movie stops still. Stop within some minutes of playback.
- B-MOVV-014 - Pixel-noise (white snow) in the screen when playing 1080p50/1080p60 material (predominant during showing "static" GUI menu of Dune). During playback of 24p material, all is well. Required solution: Add setting in Video setting for Colour bits: 8bits / 12bits / auto switch (and solve auto switch issues). | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Added a new Setup option (Video / Advanced / HDMI color depth) allowing to switch between 8-bit / 10-bit / 12-bit HDMI output signal.
- B-MOVV-015 - DVD playback - BUG is, the audio will be changed, but message (in the upper right shows you the message, that the audio will be changed) will never be disappear. You can make pause, or skip or search, but nothing changed. When I return to the DVD-Menu, the message stays too. I must stop the film complete, and return to the DUNE dashboard.
- B-MOVV-016 - DVD playback - Multi Angle symbol isnt shown and it seem like all the angles are played together, resulting in a jumpy playback. Canīt select single angle.
- B-MOVV-017 - Incorrect time reported in progress bar: Pausing playback of an Matroska container video file (various CODECs), or a DVD, or a Blu-Ray where pausing it brings up the progress bar (I.e., where the Blu-Ray doesn't handle this its' own way), and possibly other media sources: The progress bar appears at the bottom but typically reports what is apparently the last time at which the playback was paused. Press Play then immediately Pause again and the progress bar will show the correct time.

Movie playback (AUDIO issues)
- B-MOVA-001 - Playing Audio via optical on receiver and HDMI video output to the TV results in constant audio synch problem (around -0.16ms). Problem occurs on all .MKV tested, in bitstream. No problem if audio is MPEG Stereo only.
- B-MOVA-002 - Switching audio streams sometimes takes a long time, especially with Divx files.
- B-MOVA-003 - HD audio playback - missing audio Dolby TrueHD during playback M2TS files - downmix to analog audio / PCM (decode) setting. BD playback is OK. | Closed: Tested and working. The problem was in content (it wasn't remuxed properly).
- B-MOVA-004 - 2ch audio dowstream quality problem - playback of PCM 2.0 sound over optical or stereo or PCM 7.1 connectors - very strange and awful quality | Substitute solution: reduce the volume directly on the prime to value "0dB" in file playback and "50" in BD playback
- B-MOVA-005 - When Dune decode (= PCM decode) 6 channels surround audio (Dolby Digital 5.1 / DTS-HD High Res 5.1 / LMPC 5.1 / FLAC 5.1), sends it to AV receiver such as 8 channels PCM surround audio. With DTS 5.1 and DTS-HD Master 5.1 itīs correct.
- B-MOVA-006 - M2TS audio track selection window - add language (such as in MKV playback, where this functionality works). In original M2TS files from BD donīt work. Itīs suffice, open and save this M2TS file f.e. in tsMuxeR - then languages shows correctly.

Subtitles
- B-SUB-001 - Add "Big" size subtitles (itīs not a wish, with current max. size are subtitles heavily readable) | Closed | FW 091211_1311_beta | Added more font sizes for text subtitles (file playback) in addition to "small" and "medium": "large" (+25%), "x-large" (+50%), "xx-large" (+100%).
- B-SUB-002 - embedded subtitles in MKV in vob sub format doesnīt work
- B-SUB-003 - Multiple SUBS - when multiple text-only subs are to be shown contemporarily on screen, only the first one is shown instead (this happens with ANY file format, and with either internal or external subtitle files).
- B-SUB-004 - | 100307_2100_beta | IDX/SUB still dont work, not external or embedded.
- B-SUB-005 - | 100307_2100_beta | PGS in M2TS work, but are somehow not very well in sync. Orig BD Structure play, they are in sync.
- B-SUB-006 - | 100307_2100_beta | M2TS PGS subtitle track selection window - add language (such as in MKV playback, where this functionality works). In original M2TS files from BD donīt work. Itīs suffice, open and save this M2TS file f.e. in tsMuxeR - then languages shows correctly.

Audio playback
- B-AUD-001 - HDMI audio reinit after each audio CD track, even if no display is on (this was known in the 1.0 version as well but still not adressed)
- B-AUD-002 - Some FLACs are not supported FLAC (2 channels, 48 KHz, 16 bits, encodec with libFLAC 1.1.0)
- B-AUD-003 - | 091229_1411_beta | - Repair international chararters in showing TAGS during audio playback

Photos playback
- B-PHO-001 - Add ZOOM functionality | Closed | FW 091211_1311_beta | Added zoom functionality for photo viewer. Use P+/P- to zoom-in/zoom-out; use arrows to scroll through the zoomed picture; Use ZOOM to toggle through "fit to screen", "pixel to pixel", and "custom" zoom modes.
- B-PHO-002 - pictures take ages to load around 20 sec for each one (when flicking through albums very annoying)

Codecs/Formats
- B-COD-001 - MKV - add the chapter support

Network/Streaming:
- B-NET-001 - Gigabit network connection - (from status experimental to stable and function)
- B-NET-002 - SAMBA - sometimes Dune lost the SMB shares. After restart itīs OK. | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Implemented a better scanning for available SMB workgroups and hosts in SMB browser. Now, there are more chances that SMB resources are found immediately, w/o the need to wait or restart network components. (This should fix the problems such as certain SMB workgroups sometimes visible, and sometimes not visible.)
- B-NET-003 - NFS UDP - improve of this type of connectivity
- B-NET-004 - | 091229_1411_beta | - USB Wifi dongle DWA-140 rev B2 donīt work (this model and revision B2 is officialy supported) | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Solved Bugfix: Finally fixed the support for USB WiFi adapter D-Link DWA-140 rev.B2 (in addition to the previously supported rev.B1).

Artwork
- B-ART-001 - 1 row icons between 2 - [confirmed issue by HDi] - do you have more than single line in the top bar showing the path to the current folder? In such a case, no room remains to show 2 rows of artwork.
- B-ART-002 - | 091229_1411_beta | - JPG images in GUI has wrong colors | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Bugfix: JPEG images (assigned via dune_folder.txt) could be displayed wrongly in the right panel of the file browser (when using "Extended List" view mode).
- B-ART-003 - | 100307_2100_beta | When using network browsing, icons are bigger than when using mapped drives.
- B-ART-004 - | 100307_2100_beta | "dune_folder.txt" mechanism improvements:- Added support for "smb://...", "nfs://...", and network_folder://..." media_url values, allowing to reference media content on SMB and NFS network shares.
It doesn't work (over nfs/tcp) with external subtitle files. What ever the url used(using the export-path or not), it never loads. Internal subs in mkv work fine thu.

HDD - Internal/External
- B-HDD-001 - Internal hard-disk is changing name when external SATA drive is connected
- B-HDD-002 - Copying files with ftp from NAS to local Dune hard-disk while playing an original Blu-ray often interrupts the sound to 7.1 analog audio outputs if audio stream is AC3 5.1; doesn’t occur if audio stream is PCM 5.1 (test done with Casino Royale BD)
- B-HDD-003 - transferring files with ftp to local Dune hard-disk. I stop Blu-ray playback and the drive continues to spin. I have to eject the disk for the drive to stop spinning.
- B-HDD-004 - USB storage - issue when is USB storage connected to Dune - sometimes - "System Storage is not installed", sometimes -"System Storage installed". Difference when system is powered ON/OFF via main button or go or Standby via IR remote

Pressing OFF during Ready mode - everything is OK, Dune goes to Standby | Closed: set harmony to not send stop command before power off command, just send plain "power off". Dune will stop then power off automatically.
- B-OTH-004 - Loosing HDMI output when powered down - after power down the unit (Standby & Poweroff & Hardware power off mode ) the unit looses it's HDMI output. + HDMI Sync loss while Buffer Clearing to execute navigation instruction from the remote.
- B-OTH-005 - Disappearing icons for IPTV, Torrent, Internet radio
- B-OTH-006 - Disappearing workgroup icons in SMB = B-NET-002 | [COLOR=GREEN]Closed: | 100307_2100_beta |
- B-OTH-007 - Coming back to menu is slow and even slower when browsing a folder with 200+ files
- B-OTH-008 - Remote button-pushing Response and Navigation(screen changing) between playing files and directory/folder is VERY VERY SLOW
- B-OTH-009 - Remote Control button "Shuffle/PIP" does not work as expected after pressing "Play" on a folder with music videos. Instead some audio settings appear. The shuffle function is implemented, though: During play, bringing up the context menu you can press "8" to toggle shuffle on/off.

That allows more flexibility since you may want to exclude the .jpgs that you use for TViX in the movie folders, but NOT in your picture folders, etc. It also makes the feature "future-proof" in that if a new tool/menu/gui comes along that leaves files (like .tvixie, for example) we don't need to keep going back to the FW devs to get them added as a "system file" to be masked, we can add them ourselves, as needed, to our own dune_folder.txt files. | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | Allows to specify which files should be treated as system and thus hidden (when "Hide system files = Yes" option is enabled in Setup).

HDD - Internal/External
- W-HDD-001 - Hard-disks are named by their labels (since hard-disk icons are easily recognizable) + Option to change label via pop up menu

- W-HDD-003 - UPnP server (in case, when is internal HDD instralled
- W-HDD-004 - Add ability to have HDD shortcut to a subfolder to main GUI screen. Example: If I have share called 'Media'. I would like to have two shortcuts: 'Media/Pictures' and 'Media/Videos'.
- W-HDD-005 - NTFS writing support.

Others
- W-OTH-001 - Controlling via IP codes, f.e. runs IR codes sending via IP layer. (iPhone / iPod Touch controller)
- W-OTH-002 - Add calibration patterns inside the player for people who want to do a quick setup, just a simple brightness contrast pattern would be enough for most.
- W-OTH-003 - Autofirmware check and upgrade if available via internet | Closed: | 100307_2100_beta | A new Setup section "Miscellaneous / Firmware Upgrade" allows to conveniently check for the presence of new firmware version directly from the player, and, if a new version is available, automatically download and install it (w/o the need to use a PC to download the firmware upgrade file). Also, if the player is connected to Internet, the player periodically automatically checks for the new firmware updates, and when one becomes available, informs the user about it and proposes to download/install it.
- W-OTH-004 - Advanced options set-up menu in which users can set advanced options (duh ) Things like over / underscan, audio delay (depending on audio encoding/output), standard subs selected, standar audio etc etc. and these settings should be kept for all playback.
Now i need to adjust overscan on each file seperately. Display needs to overscan due to other sources on same HDMI imput wich underscan by default (PS3 & Xbox360)
- W-OTH-005 - Add shortcut on remote for marking files/directories (to build up a playlist quickly)
- W-OTH-006 - Add shortcut on remote for faster navigating than page by page. for example to jump to the next character - usefull in hugh lists
- W-OTH-007 - Add functionality for Folder locks - Parental Control
- W-OTH-008 - Add functionality for generate screenshots from video material (during playback), not only from GUI.
- W-OTH-009 - Add functionality for dissable fan on Base 3.0.

ISSUES

- I-001 - Any mkv made by Eclipse Subs appears as having no audio, while audio is present when opening them with mplayer or VLC. Reproduction steps: download and open any of their mkv anime.
- I-002 - HDMI re-initialisation when playing any media over network file share, or optical media based on disc, including original BR discs. When i play any mp3, mkv, bdmv folder, the dune re-initialises to my avr. This causes tv input do change and revert back to its original setting (i.e hdmi1->ext1->hdmi1)
- I-003 - No sound when using TrueHD stream in a 1:1 BD Rip Hancock (not iso image) (not sure if bug, or should be in wishes) | Closed: Tested and working. The problem was in content (it wasn't remuxed properly).
- I-004 - Sometimes no audio (hdmi or spdif/coax) output, when starting or resuming a random movie.
These movies previously played with audio. When pausing and unpausing sometimes audio comes back. Sometimes selecting another movie and returning gives audio back. This doesn't happen to often. All movies are on NFS NAS.
- I-005 - Remote control - Menu selection moves more than 1 step. Described in this thread: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22314
- I-006 - Audio output via HDMI - many audio issues caused by HDMI compatibility with AV receivers marantz. Described in these threads: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22673 and http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?p=176313
- I-007 - Dune Base 3.0 (fw: 091229_1411_beta) doesn't follow symbolic links on NAS drive. It would be nice to get it fixed (works fine with Tvix 6500). Described here: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=414
- I-008 - My Dune Base 3.0 does not play audio files. Described here: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=415
- I-0O9 - Sometimes even with TCP-NFS, speed is stuck at 3.7 mb/s ( like UDP-NFS) and it increase to 9-10 mb only after i reboot BD Prime 3.0. At 3.7 mb/s BD isos are not playable over NAS.
But i can live with this coz Prime is awesome. Described here: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=422
- I-010 - Home burned 2layers DVD9 don't play. Described here: http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=427 and http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=429
- I-011 - NFS mounts: Symbolic links are apparently not recognised (they're treated as files of an unknown type). E.g., have an NFS share "/Media/"; in that create directories (folders) "/Media/dir1/" and "/Media/dir2/"; into "/Media/dir1/" put any media file you like (let's call it "Music.mp3") then symbolically link to it with a relative symbolic link from "/Media/dir2/" - E.g., type "cd /Media/dir2 ; ln -s ../dir1/Music.mp3 Music.mp3". Browse to this share on the "Dune" and in "/Media/dir1/" you will see your music file but in "/Media/dir2/" you will see an icon for an unknown file.
- I-012 - | 100307_2100_beta | The advanced Video Setup Options dont show up here for some users
- I-013 - | 100307_2100_beta | The player scales to 1921 x 1081 instead of 1920 x 1080. Results in loss of picture information and pixel phase problems. Perfectly explained here : http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthr...t=23525&page=2

BUG: Any mkv made by Eclipse Subs appears as having no audio, while audio is present when opening them with mplayer or VLC. Reproduction steps: download and open any of their mkv anime.

BUG: When multiple text-only subs are to be shown contemporarily on screen, only the first one is shown instead (this happens with ANY file format, and with either internal or external subtitle files). Reproduction steps: open any subbed mkv file in which multiple subtitles are shown contemporarily.

WISH: Styled subtitles (SSA) support.

WISH: Support for matching file and output resolution

WISH or BUG ?
- Bug in my eyes Audio-CD: No FF / RF with Audio-CD
- Bug: Freezing when skippping from 4xFF to next step. experienced with several AVIs with different codecs via SMB.
- Bug: Loud noise in loudspeaker when switching on Prime and AVR already powered on. Could do serious harm to loudpeakers in case volume is high on AVR. Using analog outs.

Wish: Internet-Browser

BUG : HDMI Sync lost after unit shutdown. Have to manually set output mode to 1080p again for signal to come back.

BUG : HDMI audio reinit after each audio CD track, even if no display is on ( this was known in the 1.0 versions as well but still not adressed )

WISH : Advanced options set-up menu in wich users can set advanced options (duh )

Jusat to double check that with <quote> B-SUB-001 - "Big" size subtitles (itīs not a wish, with current max. size are subtitles heavily readable) <unquote>, we do mean that there are no BIG subtitles enabled only medium & small, right? At least that's the case with my Dune. Another bug that i noticed and i have replicated 8 out of 10 times is that when i restart after stand-by i loose the IPTV and Webradio icons. I will have to completely shut down the unit (power off from the button) then restart and they re-appear...strange...
A wish for me would to be able to make the BD region free...it appears that the patch that is available for the previous model does not work on the Dune 3.0, or at least my unit?

Bugs: happened a few times, but I can't reproduce them. A hard off/on made them reappear.
--Disappearing icons for IPTV, Torrent, Internet radio.
--Disappearing workgroup icons in SMT

Wishes:
--Ability to create favourites/shortcuts of files (SMT) in main menu
--Browsing through audio files while streaming music
--Music while playing slideshows (already mentioned in the list)
