Owners please comment on HDI confidence
First "real" post here so be gentle. I have been reading about media servers for just over a month. I have been lurking the forums about WDTV Live, Xtreamer, C-200, HDI Dune etc... If you're a newbie and browse the forums here or at AVS you will get disillusioned by the amount of negative posts. In fact, for a period in between, I started reading about HTPC; which I have such abandoned b/c the ongoing maintenance is more then I'm willing to invest.
I want a media player that will play blu-ray and standard DVD decrypted backups that either decodes or bitsreams the highest audio codecs (i.e DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD). Based on my readings it seems like the HDI Dune is the only player that accomplishes this. I would have purchased this device already if it was not for all the negative user posts (i.e. HDMI/resolution problems, DOA units, networking issues, etc...).
So for those who already own this unit do you fell confident that existing problems will be/or can be addressed by HDI Dune. Do you regret purchasing now or would you recommend waiting to see how the product is supported? Would you recommend waiting for other products to be released (i.e. Boxee box, Xtreamer 2, etc...) before purchasing.
I am obviously keen to get started (like all AV geeks) with this technology. I hope you can appreciated where I'm coming from....Any advice appreciated.
Jason

Re: Owners please comment on HDI confidence
If you only want to play DVDs and Blurays as real backups from its originals then i can say: Buy a Dune. I'm using 3 of these players (1 x Prime V1 and 2 x Base V3) just for this purpose and never had any serious trouble with them!
But: If you want to play every crappy file you can download from the internet (as many people try) then i would recommend not to buy any of the media players out there! There are too many different audio and video codecs and types of them on the market. It is impossible for any player to play them all 100% perfectly!

Re: Owners please comment on HDI confidence
Apart from my issue, that Blu-ray puts the TV in 1080i mode (1080p works with everything else), the Dune has met my needs. I used to have a HTPC, but I junked it. Too much work.
I love my Dune BD Prime, and I am pretty confident they will put out new firmwares that fixes most people's issues.

I have a dune 3.0 BD prime. It's a very good media player. Very quality image, and it plays every type of file perfectly. But it's very new and it has bugs.
I have problems with AUDIO decoding on dune (no sound in center speaker) connected to my receiver. I've read in this forum a lot of problems with some TV's, receivers, etc.
I hope that in next firmware releases HDI will solve these bugs & problems.
Next week I will receive another DB prime 3.0 to verify If the problem is of my faulty unit or it's a bug.
My advise to you.. is waiting to see how the product is supported.

Re: Owners please comment on HDI confidence
I returned my Dune 3.0 last week. To mention is has "Some bugs" is very friendly to it.
I think it depends with Dune what environment (HDMI, Receiver, TV, Switch,...) you have if it is stable or not. I was not able to play BD-ISO, BDMV, MKV or DVD ISO. I gave today the Popi C-200 a second try and are more or less happy with BDMV (BD Iso is not working at my setup, why ever).
Now waiting for the delivery of the HDX-BD1.
I think the problem of all of this kind of Players is that you are a Beta-Tester (what nearly all Early Adoptor are) - not one of them has a working Firmware which works as promissed in each setup/environment and with all features without problems (what a Apple TV or PS3 will do).
If it is urgent, take a look at features (do you need BD Disc Player or only Streamer, etc.) and hiope that Firmware will get better. If you have still time or patience (what i do not have ) then i would recommend to wait 2-4 months and see which Firmware becomes the best for your needs.

Re: Owners please comment on HDI confidence
Well, from my part I am extremely satisfied with my Dune Prime 3.
If You can accept that nothing is perfect in this world, and no HTPC or mediabox etc will ever be, than I think that the Prime is a very good product.
Of course it has some shortcomings, but if You cannot accept any, then please don't buy anything, because nothing will satisfy You.

Re: Owners please comment on HDI confidence
This is my first NMT and I am extremely happy with it. It worked out of the box right away. 2 firmwares in 1 month boosted confidende for me about the HDI brand. For the time being this seems to be the best player out there. In a couple of moments when firmware of other players mature....who knows.
The only real feature I miss on this player is downloading from news servers, but my bet is it will be implemented soon enough. Loads of other players have and HDI can't afford to get behind of the competition. They have an advantage now.

Same here. Just put a brand new macmini back to the role of being a computer, swapped out by my dune base. Best thing I ever did. The dune does nothing but play everything I throw at it. Even that high bitrate bird scene on planet earth it laughs at. Not even my mac pro can do that. @ the poster, buy it you wont regret....
