It's not quite functional as of yet. My Movies 3 is still my pick, as Tvixie is only in 'experimental' Dune support, with manual steps required (as noted in a couple of posts above).

I for on cannot get the fanart to work either, for some reason it appears as a separate graphic (.jpg). Is there some way to integrate this as the main background?

I am a retard too and know nothing about this dune_folder.txt file or where to find it.

So I opened notepad and simply created a dune_folder.txt file and copied the text (from MrX_Cuci) in it.

After that I copied the same dune_folder.txt file in every directory that contains a movie. In my case, this is on my Synology NAS.
I have movie directories like "Action", "Drama", "Horror" etc in in these map I have maps with my movies so for example NAS/movies/Action/The Rock (1996)/

When I use TVixie, I manage only one movie at the time. Every second movie hangs on "creating thumbnail".

So for a few movies, I have movie information but also thumbnail pics are not created like before on my TViX 6500.

So I guess I am not doing it right and would appreciate some tips as well.
I have W7 as well.

@MrX_Cuci
Are you using a NAS for your movies?

It does work. Just two manually made dune_folder.txt files required and those can be used for all your directories. (see my earlier post, just copy text in notepad, save as dune_folder.txt and copy it to the movie directory. For example C:\Movies\District 9\) If you used Mymovies before you also need the - directory in order to play the movie when enter or play is pressed.

My Tvixie creations: (missing text, but that's a fault of the movie site I used)

I am not using a NAS for movies. External USB drive. You can also FTP stuff to your internal drive. Pretty neat feature. Thumbnails are not output here either, but that's no problem for me.

IMHO it's better then Mymovies dispite the quirks. It's quick, more movie databases are used and everything is free.

Ok it appears you are storing your movies in a similar way.

So we have two dune_folder.txt files?

dune_folder.txt containing

icon_path=folder.aai
background_path=tvix.aai
paint_scrollbar= no
paint_path_box= no
paint_icon_selection_box= no
paint_icons= no
icon_dx=0
icon_dy=0
use_icon_view=yes
num_cols=1
num_rows=1
icon_top=0
text_bottom=0

and another dune_folder.txt containing

media_url=../"filename or movie directory"

And just copy both txt files in the same directory where the movie is?

EDIT: I tweaked this a little bit.

Save this one in your movie directory. It's the same for all movies. So copy to all your movie directories.

and another dune_folder.txt containing

media_url=../"filename or movie directory"
Save this one in in another directory in your movie directory. The directory should be called: - Mymvovies does this the same way. So if you used Mymovies before and have that directory already you dont have to change it. Example were this dune_folder.txt should reside. C:\Movies\District 9\-\

In this case the text in dune_folder.txt should be: media_url=../district9.iso

Ok thanks. So i guess each txt file has to be adjusted right?

I guess in that case I will have to wait for an update.
I download a movie, put it in a map on my NAS and add information about the movie (with Tvixie). When we want to watch a movie, we scroll through the movies, read the information and watch it. After watching the movie is deleted so I don't keep them. So in my case it is too much hassle but it may work very well for others. Thanks for your help.

Default Re: Tvixie 1.3.0 with Dune Support Released

Been doing some fiddling around with this as well last night.
And i must say, i'm really impressed so far.
This is way easier to use then MyMovies, and the layout created is much nicer.
Especially with the fanart backdrops.

Some things i can't get my head around tho.

The lack of the dune_folder.txt, but this is easyly solved as it is the same file for each dir. So just a few quick copy / paste actions and that is solved.

I don't like the way it makes icons for icon view tho. MyMovies created some really nice high res icons. But Tvixie creates low res icons and then scales them up. This is really noticalble on a 46" 1080p display.

Second of all, the icons used in the folder view and the icon view are not the same ones.
You MUST use Tvixie to fetch the icon otherwise it just won't display. Even if you have the icon in the folder, and the folder uses this for the folder layout.

Then comes the lack of a playlist option. With MyMovies the folder is displayed with all the movie info, and when you hit play or enter the file starts playing. Tvixie doesn't generate this file. This is a huge bummer for me, because now you have to navigate through all the "trash" created to find your movie file and play this.
Creating a "-" folder with a media_url didn't solve this problem for me.

Is there a way to add something to the dune_folder.txt that hide's everything exept playable files ? This way you can hide everything and just let the dune show the movie file.

And one last thing i found really annoying is that the programs crashes a lot. I think this has to do with the query's being done to website's.
I've done my entire collection last night, and after about 10 movies this started happening. It looks like at some site's (like IMBD, MovieMeter, TMDB ) you get a temp IP ban if you run to much query's for movies. The program can't handle this and the locks up. Is this me or are more users having these problems ?

But overall, very user friendly. Huge deal of tinkering allowed with the templates to generate something YOU want ( this is a HUGE plus ). And way way way less resource intensive then MyMovies. And access to much larger DB's with movie contents.
Overall a big plus, they just need to irons out some kinks. But for now this one has my vote over MyMovies.

Default Re: Tvixie 1.3.0 with Dune Support Released

Tweaked it a little:

icon_path=folder.png
icon_valign=center
icon_scale_factor=1.6
use_icon_view=yes
background_path=tvix.aai
paint_scrollbar= no
paint_path_box= no
paint_icon_selection_box= no
paint_icons= no
paint_captions= no
num_cols=1
num_rows=1

Since folder output is to small it's upscaled to factor 1.6 The only workaround sofar.

You have to manually edited the media_url each time corresponding the filename.

You can specify the icon size in models.xml.
<Folder FileName="folder.aai">
<Width>147</Width>
<Height>200</Height>
</Folder>
If your source is hi-res, your icons will be too

I hope this helps!

Thanks.

Will go and tinker some more at home.

I just noticed that you can edit the filenames as well in the models.xml
Will this alter the files generated by Tvixie or just alter the names of the files the template looks for ?

I'm asking this because if we can edit the files it generates i suggest throwing a "." in front of the filename so that the dune explorer automatically hides the files just like my movies generates an ".Icon.aai" wich is not seen by the file browser.

This cleans up a lot of the clutter generated by Tvixie ( visually that is)
