Default Where to get original DVD-ROM fw

I have problems with many DVD titles marked "CP" (Fox titles manily), and I suspect that the region free patch is causing this. I would like to revert to the official DVD-ROM fw. to verify but where can I get this? Does anyone have a copy?

Desperate to sort out this problem.....

Thanks Hi-Jack. If this is possible at least I can start from scratch.

Agree on the DVD-DL as well, but that might be a bigger problem. :-/

Are you really sure that DVD-DL doesn't work?

I have only 1 DVD-DL (from a german game-magazine). On my XP-PC, the DVD-properties are:

Filesystem: UDF
Used space: 8'227'938'304 / 7.66 GB

If I push this DVD in the DP-558, a menu appears, I can choose the several submenu's, I hear stereo sound, can fast forward (even the FF-Speed is indicated on the higher right corner!).

Everything looks good. How can that be?

What you have is probably a typical DVD-ROM, like the ones you get when you buy a movie. They work perfectly in DP558.

I am talking about DVD+R DL (double layer). They have the same capacity as typical movie DVDs, but they can be burn at home with a double layer recorder (like NEC 2510).

DVD+R DLs are manufactured by several companies (Verbatim, Traxdata, etc.) and are quite expensive now (around 6 Euros per unit). They are used mainly for copying (backuping, I mean) movies without losing quality (like you do if you use DVDShrink when you want to record a movie in a DVD+/-R 4.7 GB).

DVD+R DLs are getting cheaper (they costed 18 Euros some months ago) and they will become the standard DVD media, specially for movies.

Do you know a tool to identify such a media?

If it you got it from a magazine, it's not a DVD+R DL.
