Cebit Chronicels: And more Dune...
So you read the change list of the upcoming firmware and read the future road-map including FlashLite support, DVB-T and a new system to index your movies and then some... Wouldn't it be nice having pictures of how it looks... Yes it would... and here they are...
Konstantin, better known as DKV online, explained the DVB-T will mainly purpose recording and watching channels. Nothing in the form like recording and watching at the same time. Recordings can be either SD or HD and file format is off course TS files. There was mention of adding DVB-S, DVB-C and other options by USB just like the current DVB-T module...
The other subject included FlashLite which allows people to develop flash applications and games that can work on the HDI units. We opted for a central server where people can submit their designs and tools / games which can then be loaded on the player and serve as an application repository for people to download from directly from the player...
And the third option, the web browser was demonstrated and worked great. You can off course use a generic USB keyboard and mouse, however small keyboards that integrate a trackball come in more handy for living room use and the "WAF" factor off course should not be underestimated...
Ending what seems most interesting is the plan of HDI to create metadata about movies on the fly (press of a button, batch, external program and so on, everything will be possible especially since the community will develop upon the new and improved system), which does not just generate a background integrating all the info... Instead, a folder, cover art and such will be separated and loaded from the player... Text and such is then projected upon the background... This is a very early stage screenshot of the main page and how it might look with the filters on genres active for instance...
There's a lot to look forward to and it seems more brands are shifting towards catalogging the media player's content. In the end, us consumers can benefit from it a lot having a none text based and dull listing... Although community work provides this kind of solutions since a long time, the system is beocming more and more sophisticated and that's something we can only embrace... This applications that already exist, could off course adapt to the new system HDI will put in it's system...

Re: Cebit Chronicels: And more Dune...
Hi,
thanks for the screen shots - can't wait for it to come out.
the index stuff for me is good but I don't like the idea of having many folders for each file/movie i will end up with hundreds, I prefer I they have one folder called say index and all cover art files go here and recognise the name from the file name from the main folder. at the moment we need to create individual folders for each movie so they can store the cover art files.

Imagine browsing mpclcub.com forums on your TV (web browser based on WebKit engine)
Shortcuts to websites are configured in the dune_folder.txt
Flash content (Flash lite integration)
Flash photo album
Flash game

Yes, that would be just great. I desperately need that kind of stuff on my 57" screen, and I need it even more in my home theatre...

Re: Cebit Chronicels: And more Dune...
More pics on DVB-T...
EPG is not ready yet so access through channels is done from a configured dune_folder.txt file
Unfortunately, no HD channel is broadcasted at this time in Hannover so we had to fall back on SD channels
Starting to record a DVB-T channel...
Playing recorded content
Enjoy!

Re: Cebit Chronicels: And more Dune...
Indeed.
I like how they split the screen, so you have the recording at the top and the playback content at the bottom.
