Default Question for Dune's owner that use Projector

Can anyone share information that which projector support deep color setting AT WHICH BITS LEVEL (8bits 10bits 12bits) -based on 2100 Beta firmware setting? Additional details on related HDMI parameters setting would also be helpful. Thanks.

For myself, my Sony VW50 Pearl will only support 8 bits. (no effect from other HDMI video setting related paramters, including resolution setting -set to 1080p/23.976).

You should ask yourself this: which SOURCE actually outputs 10 or 12 bits deep color. As far as i know, there is none. Bluray is 8 bits/color. Maybe in the future deepcolor will be supported. So don't worry, a VW50 will do perfectly.

Thanks @jowi_kuro. So what you're telling me is that there would be no difference setting dune to output 8bits, 10bits, or 12bits due to none of the source materials were created with 10bits or 12bits color-depth?

many Dune users, here in Thailand, posted noticeable PQ improvement(Color gradient) on their TV when setting their Dune to output 12bits (comparing to other lower bits setting). I just have not heard anything from projector users. But now seemed that it may be a placebo-effect? Umm....

i have a optoma HD20. It suppors 8bit, 10bit and 12bits at 1080p 24Hz. Looks awesome! The optoma doesn't like 1080p@60 though. I hope they fix that with a new firmware.

Is the picture quality(color gradient) better with 12bits? Or no noticeable improvement in this area going from 8bits to 12bits (assuming you set dune to output 12bits to HD20@1080p24) Thanks for feedback.

The only source greater than 8 bits that the Dune will play is stuff you've recorded yourself with a high-quality HD camera. Otherwise the only "improvement" will come from a player that applies filters to the 8-bit source to reduce banding or whatever. Like digital noise reduction and frame interpolation, this can look better to some people but will usually introduce artifacts of its own and reduce overall detail and picture quality.

I agree with this.
