Anyone seen a better price on the S2 than $250? I get the impression that we could do better if a decent reseller picked it up.

Edit: A seller called MediaConceptUSA has it for $245. Any others?

@diglett,

If I'm not mistaken, S2 devices on MediaConceptUSA does not have e-sata they have SATA connection on back. Better to check before placing order.

That's a good point, after you mentioned that I looked around and it looks to me like the product changed at some point and they didn't bother to update the photos. Houseofdap advertises two conflicting photos for the S2, one with eSATA and one with internal SATA on the outside.

I don't plan on using an external drive so it doesn't make much of a difference to me, but it's worth noting. I think I'm going with the S2 over the A1080 to have the option of an internal 3.5" drive.

The reason is probably because the S2 has a twin called the Allure M3 which is the same except for the use of eSATA rather than an external full SATA port.

I would really like to get the S2, but tax and customs duties in Europe would ruin Houseofdap's good price. *Damn!*

can some one tell me what the usb 3 slave does, as i have only usb 2.0 ports does it give you access to the internal hdd in the a1080 by pluging it in to your pc and adding or deleting data, can it still be used if only having usb 2.

thanks

For USB 2.0+Windows 7 I found this article:

"- The only software that currently works on windows 7 for ext2/3 drives is 'Ext2IFS', this is due the fact that windows 7 requires a digital signature and cannot be overridden.
- To install Ext2IFS you have to run the installer under compatability mode choosing Windows Vista, not Windows XP because this will not work.
- After installation you will be able to assign a drive letter to your drive and be able to acces it."

I can't foresee -even for myself- how A1080 will react on USB 3.0.???

BTW this is a good question and now I will forward came to Egreat & iboum.

Topic remains open but treat this discussion lightly. No promotion for eGreat whatsoever as we do not indulge the brand at all...

http://www.mpcclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24708

We cannot promote eGreat as they are banned and this product again shows they are not to be trusted copying HDI firmware on their units without thinking of the possible consequences on consumers and resellers.

While at iBoum my respected colleague talks of "similarities" it is clear they are not stating it's a plain copy being sold of HDI's respective work they can simply not guarantee to update to the next versions and may end up failing eventually as well...

Resellers should be very carefull selling these (licenses and such are not paid, neither is the firmware use granted)... as they will end up paying the bill, not eGreat...
