Re: 8 to 10 TB NAS for Dune BD Prime 3.0
Thank you fld9!
That was just what I wanted to hear.
Letīs see if I got this right.
1. Remap bad sectors the hard drives might have with appropriate software.
2. Instal disks to Lian Li EX-50 (Havenīt chosen hard drives yet but Iīm thinking about Seagate LP Barracuda 2 TB or Samsung Spinpoint F3 2 TB).
3. Plug Lian Li to PC.
4. Setup RAID with the attached JMicron management tool.
5. Plug Lian Li to Dune.
6. Format with Dune to Duneīs native format (EXT3?)
7. Plug Lian Li to PC.
8. Transfer BD ISOs to Lian Li.
9. Plug Lian Li to Dune.
10. Enjoy the show!

If you format the Lian Li EX-50 with the Dune (EXT2) and then connect it to your PC, either you install a EXT2 driver for Windows to write to it or boot on a Linux CD to copy files from PC to EX-50. When the EX-50 is connected to your Dune, you can ftp files from your PC to it.
If you format the Lian Li EX-50 with your PC (NTFS), you can easily transfer files to it. When connected it to the Dune, you will only be able to read files at this time. Future HDI firmware will allow you to write, delete and ftp files to external NTFS drives/hardware raid systems.
If you want to tweak your Lian Li EX-50:
- it is possible to nest the external power supply in the case itself
- replace the fan by a quieter one
FYI, I tested the Lian Li EX-50 with Hitachi 2To DS7K2000 HDS722020ALA330 and Seagate Barracuda LP 1.5To ST31500541AS. Careful with the Seagate Barracuda LP, there is a possible CC35 firmware update to apply (was my case).
Enjoy and share your feedback!

Re: 8 to 10 TB NAS for Dune BD Prime 3.0
Ok. Seems like both format solutions work good for me.
NTFS is the more simple and easier way for file transfer when plugged in to PC. NTFS write support is also listed for the next beta firmware for Dune BD PRime 3.0.
EXT2 is propably the better choice for overall usage with Dune and ftp works now, not "sometime in the future". Possible EXT2 drivers for Windows: Ext2Fsd and Ext2IFS.
For hard drives I want to have low power, low noise and affordable so Iīm looking for 5400/5900 rpm. Also Iīm going to replace the fan in Lian Li by a quieter one if needed.
I want to share my experiences when Iīm set but for a few months work will keep me away from completing this project.

Re: 8 to 10 TB NAS for Dune BD Prime 3.0
Ok.
I got the Dune BD Prime 3.0 with the new and silent blu-ray drive. It works fine and Iīm happy with it. Its great that it can lift subtitles to the picture area with 2,35:1 blu-ray movies
Now Iīm ready to order Lian Li ex-50 and 5 x 2TB hard drives but I donīt know which hard drives to buy. I was going to buy 5 x Samsung Spinpoint F3 (HD203WI) 2TB SATA II but I saw that I could save almost 100 euros if I buy 5 x Samsung EcoGreen F4 2000GB, SATA II (HD204UI). What do you think, will these new Samsung 4K Sector hard drives (HD204UI) work with Lian Li and Dune? Should I get something different?
Iīm ordering from this store. Any help appreciated.

Re: 8 to 10 TB NAS for Dune BD Prime 3.0
I am happy with my F3's. The F4''s seems even better (faster and uses less power).

Re: 8 to 10 TB NAS for Dune BD Prime 3.0
I ordered Lian Li EX-50B and 5 x Samsung EcoGreen F4 2TB (HD204UI). Hope these hard drives work ok. Price for all delivered was 635,64 EUR.
Which is better (easier to get working, easier to update, more reliable, faster to use) Zappiti or yaDIS? I Donīt know when I get the time to read about these in detail, but the whole idea is to get a comfortable and a flashy way to browse and play movies. I already got my universal remote (Logitech Harmony 1100) working with Dune so it shouldnīt be difficult to organize a set up that will power on every needed device and start Dune in the appropriate software with just one button.

Then you confirm that Dune (also v2.0?) are equipped by this kind of interface?
With these systems it is possible to start with only one HDD and, later, add another and anoter HDD when needed?
Thanks for your answer.

There is no port multiplier in the Dune.

Raid or JBOD? My dune will not even recognize any external drives in raid, only span or jbod. I have not used the icy dock, but i have an OWC mercury ( http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/RAID/Desktop) that has usb, esata, firewire 400 and 800 in raid 5 with four WD green 2TB for 8TB total, the dune will not recognize it in any form of raid. If I select span(jbod), it will recognize it, format it and give me a 6TB volume. There is a very long thread about this here:
