Default Do you think kiss will still be around in the next 5 years ?

Just wonderd wot your thought were, regards the future of kiss technology.??

I personally think kiss wont be around in the future, every time kiss release a new product it is never fully working, they charge top prices for players that arnt even close to being fully finished.

at this moment in time I have 2 X kiss dp-450 dvd players + a xbox-media player and I was daft anuff to buy a 558.

I can confirm that my kiss Dp-450 + my xbox is a much better player than the 558, minus the hard drive recording,

It does seem daft how we all buy these players from them, then spend the next 12 months as Beta testers to help them produce firmware`s so 1 day we can sit back and relax and finally get the player we paid for. It would be ok if we were all being paid a weekly wage or we were given the players, but to pay top money for wot we all have at the minute is day light robery.

I persoanlly cant see the kiss 558 being fully working for adleast another 6 months, from each new firmware that is released there are more bugs created etc etc.

any way I am gonna go and play russian roulette with the power button on my 558 player >>> If I am lucky I might be able to get 30 mins enjoyment out of it B4 it shoots me in the head.

my advice to people thinking of buying a kiss product, go and buy a xbox and put a 400 GB hard drive inside.

I bought the 558. I certainly will not be buying any more KiSS products as I'm very unimpressed.

The only reason I've not sent it back is because the place I'm trying to send it back to were being funny buggers about it and are now ignoring my e-mails. The V1.1[.1] f/w did make it a bit more stable, but there are still loads of little annoyances that I don't like putting up with and there is NO WAY I would recommend the 558 or even KiSS as a brand.

Considering it cost me nearly £400 I expect it to at least work correctly (bugs, bugs, bugs), be responsive (the menus are slow, it's slow to turn off, it's slow to turn on)and be easy to use (setting a show to record takes many more key presses and screen navigations than necessary).

This did not yet happen with the DP-558 series.
The updates done, where good and decent updates and others are coming.
The immature status of the player, we already reacted on that several
times so i'm not going to repeat

ZeBadger, if you mailed them within 7 days that you wish to return the
player, they have to accept it. If they act funny by not answering your
mails, act back by calling, writing.

We are looking forward to the next update, many tests are ongoing and i'm
convinced eventually we (MPC) will track down all errors so KiSS can fix
them. Especially the OOS problems are targeted at the moment by us for
which we invested in a second DP-558 model rev7 to check...

Anyway, a lot o people like the player and will like it if it at least will run
stable soon and do the recordings right...

I think KISS will be around in the future for some time if they keep innovating in the way they are now. There are always people that want the coolest and newest gadgets.

For now the DP558 is the only (or 1 of very few) that plays DivX, CD, DVD, mp3, etc; has HDD recorder, has network capabilities, can access internet, etc etc And all of this for just EUR 529,- (DivXPlayer.nl some time ago).

It does seem daft how we all buy these players from them, then spend the next 12 months as Beta testers to help them produce firmware`s so 1 day we can sit back and relax and finally get the player we paid for.
I do agree with you that we are treated as beta-testers. It is for 'normal' customers unacceptable that the dp558 still not has all functionality that is promised ; still contains a lot of bugs ; and what I understand now even has hardware changes (rev 7) compared to the first releases (I was one of the first 'lucky 100' that got a DP558, but I paid a lot more then the EUR 529,- ). But I don't see myself as a 'normal' customer. At this moment the DP558 is still a nerds toy. And I knew this when I ordered the DP558. Maybe in 6 months it is ready for 'normal' customers??? 8O

any way I am gonna go and play russian roulette with the power button on my 558 player >>> If I am lucky I might be able to get 30 mins enjoyment out of it B4 it shoots me in the head.
30 mins enjoyment is very negative view. Personally I don't have that experience. I can play a DVD without problems; I can listen mp3 music without problem; I can record and watch TV shows without problems; network/internet access without problem; .......The only thing that is still bothering me at this moment is that it is still impossible to watch DivX with subtitles . And yes every once in a while (typically once a day) the player has to be reset (power off/on) to work normal again. So what ! When you are using microsoft products for some time, you get used to this

Remember KISS is the only one yet that delivers DIVX, HDD Recording and Ethernet in one machine.

Also remember DIVX/XVID is an OPEN STANDARD. there are thousands of ways to encode it and this is the mail reason that DIVX is not implemented in any DVD standard yet.

The DP-558 is not perfect yet, but i use it every day without major problems.
OK it freezes when i FF a DIVX, but that and other issues will be solved !

With my old SAMSUNG and PHILIPS HD recorder, there were NO updates.

KISS will improve things, I'm sure of it !

Rene
