We are very keen in getting user reviews. Also reviews wise, for those wondering we are going to get a number of reviews on a good number of quality publications. Australian PC user magazine (the leading tech magazine here) will be one of them.
Would you mind telling us where this player is made? Also who is developing the firmware if it is different to the standard Realtek SDK based one.

Looks like another Chinese knock off of the TViX to me.

I am user from the U.S.A. I look forward to something like this that might give me a respectable and stable alternative to the TVIX. Most especially if I am able to use the Tuner's in the U.S, have mature music and photo display features and stable network connectivity with strong wireless options.

If the TVIX is considered your closest competitor feature wise... I ask that you have someone review some of the frustrations people have had with it on these forums. You might find a list of issues and requests worthy of consideration in your product. Please also not the things that people appreciated.

Thank You,
Chocobro.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will have a look at the threads.

The device unfortunately won't be compatible with American digital television. The HDium uses the DVB-T standard for its tuners whereas in North America the standard used is ATSC.

Will you be supporting icetv?

No ICETV support. There are no plans to support it at this stage.

However I have been waiting for firmware updates for promises made for too long so I will hold off on my purchase until the feature's I need are working.

Thanks for giving it a go and good luck - I will be watching with anticipation.

Please keep us informed!

Aaron

Media player and PVR capabilities on this players are fairly good, albeit not on the same level as the Dune as a media player or a beyonwiz as a dedicated PVR which is obvious seeing that these
devices are on the top of their respective segments and carry a much different price tag.

In case you end up being interested We are going to launch a 14 day full refund program to give first users greater peace of mind and encourage experimentation (excluding shipping charges).

The player is made in China as nearly all the players out there. The information of winch parties exactly develop the firmware is confidential as it is commercial in nature. But we are upfront, the development of the firmware is not done in house, it is outsourced to a firm that does custom firmwares from the realtek SDK.

OK thanks for the info - I would be happy to test it in Australia if you need beta testers

ugh, again with the yamj support...

How come we are now at a point where each company feels the need to adapt to a software that was created to support a broken UI (popcorn hour) and a result is such a pain to use.
Why not try to adapt to the best, like XBMC library mode? (scan engine and local art)

I don't know how hdium will do but it baffles me how no company yet has proposed a MP capable to use a USB key, SDcard, internal HDD, etc., for storing all the fanart cache that the player would have previously resized after the very first read of a folder.
That way, you get ultra quick display starting from 2nd time you browse the folder (exactly like xbmc) and the user doesn't have to care anymore about the size of all his posters, covers, etc.
It's almost like a collector thing to go and search for the best posters, fanart from various websites, why ruin this and make us resize then to stuff like 185x256

Anyway, upport the local fanart and you get my vote (folder.jpg / fanart.jpg)

Update:
- Players are already in stock in Australia. The Spanish reseller will have them in stock by tomorrow.

- Test sample is on its way to hi-jack.

- Recording while watching a movie over ethernet works, over wireless it does not.

Very interesting, Does the unit support the UK's HD Freeview standard (DVB-T2 I believe)?

Unfortunately DVB-T2 is not supported, DVB-T is.
