Default Tvix slim S1 stuttering and samba problem

I just bought a Tvix slim S1 in the hope that the stutter problems were over. I went from a 6500 and had also problems with some movies.
I also replaced the new Tvix with the old one and didn’t change the wiring. Everything is wired with Cat5e via a router.

Too bad. Al my movies stutter, except for small mkv files such as series (Smallville etc).

The set up:

Tvix Slim S1
Internal hdd (switch from my old 6500)
Firmware 2.0.5. (I also tried 2.0.3)

Networkdisk 1 with NFS. I can connect to my pc and I see all my files (on my pc \tvixhd1)
If I play for example Avatar mkv it starts stuttering directly in the beginning and it doesn’t stop. Also vob file stutter right away. Only small files work fine (Avi, small mkv etc)

For some reason I cannot connect with the Samba server. I read that with Samba the problems could be over. I use the same IP and the ping is ok but I get the “cannot connect to..” message.

All movies on my internal hdd work fine. No stuttering.

I installed the XBMC server and used Upnp. For some reason I managed to see the Avatar mkv movie on my Tvix. It didn’t stutter at al. Too bad I can’t see my mkv files anymore. I don’t know what I did wrong with the server but that doesn’t work anymore.

Am I correct to assume that the Samba server will work properly? What can I do to stop the stuttering?

I can return the device. Is that the smartest option?

Default Re: Tvix slim S1 stuttering and samba problem

Ok, the Samba connection is up! The default name setting was /tvixhd1. Without the "/" it works fine, my bad.

The strange thing now is that all files play fine, no stuttering. I didn't watched a full movie dough. I have to test that also.

If I select for example Avatar it doesn't stutter with Samba but does with NFS. Is there a explanation for it?

NFS should generally be more stable but sometimes still depend on how it's setup. Some have native NFS support whilst others use software applications and they all take part in the eventual outcome... Hard to say.

(The silence is because I am extremely busy and there's not much going on to tell... we still monitor the scene and come out of our shelves when necessary )
