Default My Movies for NMJ - 20 Step Guide (Beta)

Hi all,

We have been working on allowing My Movies Collection Management to support and store meta-data for the NMJ, and would like help from some of you to beta test the initial version.

For those of you who do not know My Movies, the My Movies Collection Management program is a part of My Movies' product suite which allows you to index your movie collection and store meta-data for many different front-ends.

Notice! My Movies is created for indexing your full movie collection, and it will overwrite any existing "folder.jpg" files in your movie folders based on the data in the Collection Management program.

What My Movies brings to NMJ that the NMJ does not have itself internally is the option for meta-data in other languages than English, to supply high-quality coverart as well as high-quality movie backdrops.

You can read more about the product suite on our website: http://www.mymovies.dk.

Be aware that this is the initial test of storing meta-data for the NMJ, and while it have been tested internally, it very well may have problems for functionalities that could be improved. It is recommended that you backup your "nmj_database" jukebox folder prior to installing to ensure you can always go back.

We hope that you will help us with testing to ensure that we get any bugs resolved, and give us inputs on what to improve.

You can download the software here:

Windows Media Center (Windows versions that include Windows Media Center):

http://www.mymovies.dk/media/My%20Movies...review.zip

Collection Management (Windows versions that does not include Windows Media Center):

http://www.mymovies.dk/media/My%20Movies...review.zip

Be aware that users of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 installed will receive an install error trying to install the needed and included SQL Server 2005 because of compatibility issues between the two.

Below is a quick guide with 20 easy steps to get going:

We hope for your inputs.

Best regards,

Brian Binnerup

It would be fantastic if you could build in TV support for NMJ, ie. so it still came up seperately as "By Movies", "By TV Shows".

I love your MyMovies software, but WMC cripples me in various ways with it that I don't really want to fix - and then fix all over again when I build a dedicated MyMovies box.

So I decided to get a PCH C-200 instead. And by chance, came across MyMovies for NMJ.

That's the final push for me, I'm definitely going to buy a PCH, and use MyMovies to manage my collection, and sort out metadata.

As a temporary solution, if we installed two seperate instances of Collection Management - one with a database named "Movies", the other "TV" - would we be able to match them up with PCH appropriately?

Just as a final thought too, is this with a MyMovies plugin, similar to how WMC works? Or does this just manage the metadata, with higher quality cover art etc. to be used on the stock UI?

If you want to seperate both, i would store the movies underneath a share called movies (managed by MyMovies) and a share "series" managed by the player itself for the time being. Until MyMovies is completed to incorporate series properly and add it to the NMJ support...

It will come, for the time being, the combi isn't optimal although it can be scanned.
Maybe Brian has more info than me but the above is what I did for now...

Ok, thanks for quick reply, that did cross my mind but jus wondered if there might be an issue with folder monitoring mix-ups between the two. Sure some fiddling would sort it.

So does MyMovies just provide the metadata (and online title location?) to PCH, or does it use it's own separate interface alongside the stock UI?

Nah, you can have MyMovies limit the scanning to a folder /share. Unfortunately NMJ is not capable of that yet for which it is necessary for it to be separated from the movies (since you'll be indexing with NMJ for series and MyMovies for movies...).

MyMovies is able to read out the database afterwards so the efforts should not be lost.

Ok.. I'm struggling to visualise the setup, but I'm going to buy one soon anyway, so I'll be able to tinker around a bit and understand it all more then. There seems to be nothing of the UI or anything software related on the popcorn hour website - which is odd, and also makes confirming you'll be able to do what you want to do if you buy it difficult.
