Re: nas advice needed
If you have another PC and a bunch of hard drives laying around then i would use something like FreeNAS, Openfiler or Unraid nas servers. I personally use a 4TB FreeNas in a raid-z2 on a gigabit network to backup all my media and files. Its writes way faster than any Qnap/drobo out there (Unless you are willing to spend thousands).. The money you would save by building yourself a free nas server you can uses it towards buying storage.
both Freenas and openfiler support the following..
Network Protocols supported:
SMB/CIFS (Samba)
AFP (Netatalk)
NFS
FTP (ProFTPD)
TFTP (tftp-hpa)
RSYNC (client/server)
Unison

iSCSI target
Extra services:
Bittorent client (Transmission)
UPnP server (FUPPES)
iTunes/DAAP server (Firefly)
