DUNE BD Prime 3.0 - Bad speed when copying files
I've bought a dune prime BD 3.0 without a HDD last Summer. Cause Yadis changed it's structure I was pushed to use storage on the Dune to get some nice menu structure.
So I've used an USB stick, but when I copied the Yadis files through network (SMB) the speed sucks. The speed was about 2 till 3 mb/s.
This while I use a GB Switch with Cat 6 From my 2008 R2 server to the Dune.
Cause Transfering from server over network to USB could result in delay I've bought a 2.5" WD 600 Gb disk and placed it in the Dune.
When I try to copy a large file (600MB) it sends with a speed of 3 to 5 MB/s max. But Yadis files will transfer a lot slower cause it contains a lot of smal files.
The settings in the Dune are set to Gb transfer. But it looks like it's not using this speed.
Anyone any idea? Perhaps some dfs files where i can check the duplex state with? Cause by telnet with the ifconfig command doesn't show me any of the information, and couldn't find any tools on it.

It is not recommended to enable the "experimental" Gigabit Ethernet. We're stuck with 100Mb for now.
How is that WD 600GB disk formatted? Do you put media files on there, or just Yadis index files?

It is not recommended, but it does not harm as to my experience. In fact speed is the same... Still below 100Mb capabilities. BTW, I'm able to get 9.5Mb/s (which is almost a theoretical limit of 100Mb network) in a single operation: download _from_ Dune using ncftp. Upload operations, samba access or using any other ftp client gives much worse results.
Mine internal HDD is ext2, formatted by Dune itself. I also have full 1Gb HW config (switch, cables and clients).

Re: DUNE BD Prime 3.0 - Bad speed when copying files
I will disable the Gigabit experiment to see if it will have some effect. I already formatted the disk through telnet on the Dune to ext2, ext3 and ntfs. But no result.

Re: DUNE BD Prime 3.0 - Bad speed when copying files
Hi,
I think itīs normal. Try copying a large file and you will reach 8-10MByte/sec. A lot of small files causes a lot of overhead. You can see the same when you use an USB stick on your computer. Large file 20MByte/sec, smaller MP3s perhaps 7MByte/sec and even smaller files only 2-3MByte/sec.

Re: DUNE BD Prime 3.0 - Bad speed when copying files
Well... No succes. Copying large files are copied with a max speed of 5mb/s. Small files from yadis with about 3mb/s max.
Even if i would use cat5 (not cat5e) on my 1gb router i would at least expect 12 to 20 mb/s transfer on large files.
A temporary alternative i create is to process the yadis folder localy and when i close yadis robocopy will copy all my files (10 multiple threads) if changed. This looks the best workaround for yadis right now. Cause not all the files have to be copied this way and will delete files if they're not available on my source location.
Meanwhile i'll hoop to find out why smb is this slow... (from 2008r2 and win7) both x64.

Re: DUNE BD Prime 3.0 - Bad speed when copying files
Hi,
you can use what ever cable you want more then around 9MByte/sec is not possible with the dune at the moment. Have you used ftp to transfer a large file or did you use explorer? I only transfer files with FileZilla and get 9MByte/sec.

Re: DUNE BD Prime 3.0 - Bad speed when copying files
I am using a POF cable (so only 100MBit) and get 11 MByte/sek with FTP transfer to the internal discs.
Copying Yadis file is slower, because of the small files.
