Issues playing 1080p movies off my new Synology DS1511+ NAS
Hi all,
Finaly gave in and bought a nas. Got the Synology DS1511+, upgraded it to 3gib ram as it was so cheap. Currently running 3 x 3tb hitachi 7200rpm drives in raid 5.
Having major issues playing 1080p movies on both my 6640n and 2 x s1.
720p movies and tv shows play fine but the majority not all but the majority of my 1080p mkv's stutter something severe.
I have tried in both samba and nfs mode, funny this is they both stutter but in different places.
I have jumbo frames turned off. Currently all running through a gigabit switch but have tried running it through a 10/100 switch as well.
Please help as i just spent a fortune on the nas and now my partner has gone crazy with us not being able to watch movies.
Please go ahead and ask questions and ill reply as soon as i can. It is really beyong me why this isnt working.

Re: Issues playing 1080p movies off my new Synology DS1511+ NAS
Let me try to help as I am using DS1010+ with DX510 without any issues using both samba and nfs for Popcorn C-200 and Dune Smart B1.
Is your DS1511+ having the latest firmware installed?
Are you using a HDMI splitter? If yes, don't use it as I had encountered audio and video problems using the monoprice hdx-401e hdmi switch for both Popcorn C-200 and Dune Smart B1.

Re: Issues playing 1080p movies off my new Synology DS1511+ NAS
Maybe there is still some indexing of photos running in the background?
This may take days with many pictures.
Check systemressources on your NAS.
I am running a DS1010+ with DX510 through GBit-Switch to 100MBit-Switch to feed my HTPC - PopcornHourC-200 before - no problem to stream 1080p.
Jumboframes enabled.

Re: Issues playing 1080p movies off my new Synology DS1511+ NAS
Seems like you have tried everything
One small suggestion, could you also try to use UPnP, this always worked for my Tvix (6600 and S1). Now I have a 100 MBit switch, and it works very well with SAMBA.
One last thing, do you use Wireless or Wired connections?

Re: Issues playing 1080p movies off my new Synology DS1511+ NAS
I had some issues at the start, try CAT5e cable if you have any, some switches don't like CAT6 cables. Are the 1080p rips the ones you did if so how ?
I have a 1010 and a 2411 and I have no issues streaming 1080p rips to a few Dvico's ay the same time. Has to be something you missed.......!

the rips are the ones i get from newsgroups.
if i copy it onto a harddrive plug it into either unit it plays without a problem.
I can also watch it on my pc, laptop and macbook without a problem.
funny thing is before the nas i had a 2tb in both units one with movies and other with tv shows and i could watch anything between them without a problem.
