very curious. how could a company like Xtreamer that so much depend on the community to help developing software/firmware, do things that is supposed to be done by the company itself? Is there less than 5 people working inside?

How about the HiMedia HD600B. Has the same specs of the original Prodigy will the RLT 1185.

There is a 1186 based HiMedia 900B coming very soon. Launch at the Hong Kong Fair mid-October. 3D, better web browser, faster CPU. Otherwise very similar to the 600B.

That's what surprised me so much about Hijack's story. 1186 based players are just round the corner from many manufacturers. If Xtreamer can't get a competitive product out then they stand to get left behind.

The 1185 Sidewinder 2 is only just out now, 8 months after the first 1185 players and almost at the same time as the first 1186 players.

Well, Xtreamer positioned itself as an open scene brand at first and lured in some known scene people supporting the brand for benefits in return clearly. On top of that. Xtreamer has some strong partners in crime that push their products in retail and offer generous benefits with all pre-sales (like free wireless, free shipping etc...)...

With every product it becomes more clear that Xtreamer launches pre-sales way too fast and doesn't keep issues in mind nor announces trouble with delivery of products in time to their consumers until the dates are long due. That statement usually is a simple excuse and a new date of launch...

As far as I known, the Sidewinder 2 is halted as well due to issues with firmware.
Anyone seen an official statement from Xtreamer yet about the release? They should be able to confirm by now if they make the 5th of October or not... The more silence there is, the more reason there is to doubt...

I hope they make it... for the sake of the customers that actually purchased one already... I wouldn't like all these delays myself, especially not if it takes over 7 months and specs at the time of sale are totally different than the product now (in some cases a benefit, in other cases not a benefit at all)...

I hope they make it too, but it's not looking good.

Xtreamer MK1 was a success because it was one of the first 1073 based players and managed to come in at a price that was revolutionary at the time. If it had appeared 6 months later it probably wouldn't have done anything like as well.

More recent products have totally missed out on both of these key ingredients. They are neither amongst the first to be launched or particularly cheap.

If I may join in the conversation...

I think everyone is right in saying that the communication of Xtreamer towards their customers is weak to say the least. On the other hand, I don't expect any company to come forward with information regarding deals made with other companies. It's not just Xtreamer that keeps a lit on that kind of information.

Xtreamer has aggressive marketing. They promise the world and more, but are always in some way exposed to delays and total silence about important matters regarding the release of their new products.

The thing is, the Xtreamer MK1 is actually a really good product. But... It became a good product after many, many bugfixes in new firmware releases. Their products are released way too fast, because they are affraid they will lose their head position with some new features. They love to advertise with features that "no other brand has". It would be much better, if they would bring out a more stable device at release and to not be so obsessed with releasing a product that has a (half working) new feature, that no other device has.

There's one thing I like about Xtreamer though. They tend to set the bar high for themselves. It's just the implementation that needs to be better. I expect the Prodigy to be a good product as well. I just hope that it doesn't take 15 firmware versions to do it.

I think a bingo type game could be started, predicting when (date, or month or year) that the prodigy ships. You know, just for fun. For the kids.
