Default New Smart D1 - How do I format my internal HDD?

Seasons Greetings!

Just took delivery of a Dune Smart D1 - and I am slowly finding my way. For the initial run - I stuck in a 500GB Western Digital Caviar Black - but I am at a loss as to how to have the player format the drive for me? This drive still has old Windows data on it and I understand I need to format to EXT2 or something?

I cannot find a command anywhere to do this? What am I missing?

Cheers!

If you have old Windows data on it then just erase the files and you are good to go. Dune "understand" NTFS in both read and write so itīs a good idea to keep it in NTFS so you can take your 500GB drive to your Windows computer and still able to read it.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and formatted it to EXT2 format after finding the "info" button. Gotta say - if Dune actually took 5 minutes to supply a copy of the "online" manual in the box - probably would have been a huge time saver.

Further to your comment on NTFS - I see I have an NTFS format option within the Dune Info menu - and I agree - if I wanted to see data on the Dune (when it appears in Explored on the Network) - it's probably a better idea to format to NTFS...

I also finally figured out how to get an SMB shortcut working from the Sources area - so now my movies are streaming in with no issues.

Was thinking about upping the internal drive to a 2TB Seagate or WD Green...thoughts on this?

Cheers,

I've read reports of overheating issues with internal drives, so a 5400 rpm (ie WD Green) should be a good choice. Alternatively a 2.5 hdd, 5400 rpm should run really cool and you shouldn't have any internal heat problems. Personally, I have a Dune HD Smart H1 and I never put in an internal drive. I keep everything external.
