Default Zappiti export to 2 Dune players

Is it possible to configure Zappiti to export the same data to more than 1 Dune D1 at the same time or do you have to overwrite the export path each time?

You are in luck, I actually have three all hitting the same database. The key is to have the Zappiti database on a NAS device that both your Dunes can see. This does not have to be the device that your movies reside on and in fact for me it is not. I have a little SSD based QNAP with two drives in RAID 0 to deliver the movie wall at lightning speed and never let this unit sleep. My main data files are on Synology's biggest 36 bay NAS. The dunes read from the QNAP and it is the QNAP that knows where to find each movie.

Any questions, just ask,

Thanks for the reply. I have a NAS where all the movies are stored. Can I assume I need to set the Dune export path in Zapitti to be the NAS?

Yes exactly then each Dune will read the same database. In your case the database will point to the same physical drive. Personally I also store the Zappiti config also on my fast NAS so that I never get caught out when I need to rebuild my PC.

Thanks, that's a great idea, how do I move the Zapitti config? Will it also store all the cover art on the NAS?

Somethings not working for me.

I export the Zappiti database to a network share successfully.
I can access the _Zappiti folder from the Dune using SMB.
I can browse all of the movie and tv cover art etc throught the Zappiti interface from the Dune.

When I try to play a movie or TV show I get an error saying
"failed to open the URL".

The URL looks correct....
URL:smb//usernameassword@ipaddress/path

any idea whats wrong?

First question is the Configuration folder. Create a new Zappiti folder on the NAS then copy from your existing Zappiti folder (Appdata\Local\Zappiti) the Pictures, settings, splash screen and the latest version only of the database e.g. database-2.4.7.0. Now update your Zappiti in configuration to the new location and it should all work.

The other problem is common and the Dune cannot find the media (not in your case) or your windows security is preventing the Dune from reading the file. Don't be mislead by the fact that you can see the file. For my NAS units I always set up a new folder and open up all the security permissions or otherwise use a Public folder.

Just check that you have SMB:// as you typed SMB//

Ian:

Great tip on the SSD for the movie wall. I would never have considered that as a solution, but now of course I'm figuring out the cost to put it up on mirrored ssds.

Things that make you go hmmm.

In testing my Raid 0 QNAP 209 delivers about 110 MB/s using two OCZ 80GB SSD drives. My Synology DS3611 units with the expansion bays hold 36 3TB drives. The issue is one of power consumption. The Synology comes out of sleep in around 30 seconds so is not too bad but I never let the QNAP sleep and it has very low power consumption. My Synology will read and write in excess of 115MBs for a whole week so if you leave a fast NAS On it can perform just as well. The QNAP just sits there and has currently been up for over 400 days without a glitch.
