Any news at all on DP 50x FW?
Hi all,
I was just wondering why there is no mentioning at all of new FW for the DP50x series players?
All I read about is the 558, 1000 and 150x series. It kindof feels like the 50x series is forgotten about.
Last year Hi-Jack reported that new firmware was on the way for all players, but untill now most attention went to the DP1000 and the 559. I have no doubt that the FW for the 50x series players is still worked on, but an occasional report on trhe progress would really be comforting (even if later on the FW appears not to be working...). I guess what I'm trying to say is that the 50x series is not getting any attention, while I feel that this is the largest group of (unsatisfied and VERY patrient) users.
Could anyone tell me anything about the status?
Thanks,
Paco

Not done yet
I dont want to blame HI-Jack or MPC , but....
I expect a well done Firmware for 508, once a day when X-Mas and Eastern is at the same day, since the FW was so often promised and rescheduled.
In fact I think about to ship the 508 to a Person which I hate, or throw it through a Window and buy the a 50? Aldi (discount market ) player.
Probably it cant not much more, but I know that i have not to wait to a day which will never come, and I can buy every two year a player which is more up to date.
Before I bought my 508 I was so excited about Kiss and his company strategy, but now I am bored about their....... blah blah blah.
I should cut my tongue, because in past I recommend so many people the Kiss players, luckly not many have done it. And which done it I have lost their friendship.
---
If my Software Company had do it the same way, it would had an bankruptcy already.
If there is no changes in future, I hope you go bankruptcy......
Sorry for my bad english and blaming, but this words must be said.

Let's face it. In terms of firmware updates, the DP-50x is barely on life support.
If the 500/508 was a human, someone would have put it out of its misery (i.e. mercy killing / euthanasia / bullet in the head) many months ago.

<lol> too true. I'm going to switch back to 2.8.8, as this seemed to work best for network/divx stuff (not great for DVDs, but you vannot have everything!)

With the risk of being burned to the ground for saying this:
I'm a happy DP-500 user. I have some whishes for improvements, but generaly I'm doing okay with it.
I can not realy understand why so many (or few; glass half full/half empty...) forum-visitors trash their player (verbally) like this. There MUST be some features that do work, and which make 'm stand out from the rest of the players on the market. With the Xoro from my brother I can't see what is on TV, I can not check the weather for the places I go to, I can't tune in a background music by internet radio. With both I can watch DVD's and DivX-en, a few had to be re-encoded to watch, but hey, that's all a bit in the game of the DivX's.
This doesn't make right the fact that KiSS released a bad FW regarding the remote, which they should have corrected much faster. If it worked earlier, it should be working always. It also doesn't make right other flaws in FW's for other players, which should be corrected.
But all in all, come on, is it really that bad?! Or am I the only one here? Hi-Jack has made more possible than I ever had with e.g. Sony, ever tried to contact their service departement about a laptop-problem? Or, as I've just found out, the Siemens service department is a dead end as well. They certainly have not the same contact with their community as we do as MPC users.
Btw, I myself of course hope that there will be improvements and added features, but I'm not going, and have no reason, to slash and burn my player like that (PS this doesn't necessarily apply to posters in this thread, but in general on MPC).
Well, just my two cents after having read a lot of negative DP-XXXX user on these forums.
Well, the burning/flaming can start, go ahead guys....
Mishendr.

In fact the main the I hate on that box, dunno maybe I am special User.
- That Forward in MP3 is not supported, since I bough this Player for
because it has a HardDisk for storing my MP3 mixes on that box.
Usually they are sized up to 170 MB, without Forward play its makes no
sense. Some friends of my have this Feature in a 40? player, OK it has
no HDD, it cost many less money
- As well that the Remote Control is not working correctly, known reason
- That it cant sort normaly files in alphebetic Order, just in creation date.
Firmwares are promised and rescheduled for months.
If I had known this before, I would have save my money and create
my own MPC

Let me start by saying that we do not flame users here (one forum-member excepted...). I regard MPC as a positive community, so don't worry about flaming etc...
The reason why so many users complain about their player is actually very simple: Not many Satisfied users take the time to figure out that there is a forum for the product where they can express their doubts and angers. Only unsatisfied people (and naggers...) post their complaints in the fora.
Furthermore, let's not make this another thread where problems are listed... There are already plenty of other threads where that can be done.
If you are satisfied with your player, then that is great. Personally, I am not dissatisfied either but I am also not quite happy with it. Reason is that it still does not do what it should be able to do.
Anyway, reason for me to start this thread was that I felt that some players were sort of forgotten about. Hi-Jack assured me that this is not the case, and that the "other" players had to wait in line for updates. DP558 and Dp1000 are first in line. All updates and improvements that are implemented in that firmware will also be available at a later time in FW updated for the DP500, DP508 and other players. These players are not forgotten; they will get plenty of attention after the FW upates for Dp558 and DP1000 have been successfully implemented.
One more thing: Some forum members make it a sport to create a negative image of Kiss. Don't let this influence you and just draw your own conclusions.
