Verified! No Kiss Firmware planned for release yet!
We heard loads of rumors about:
New firmware to be released next week.
Kiss will stop support on DP-450 and DP-500 soon!
Still no support for Time Skiping with SVCD.
UDF will or will not be in next firmware Release... etc...
RevA not as good as RevB players...etc...
We got in touch with one of the leading developers at Kiss and asked him
all the questions we could come up with within a reasonable time.
Answers to all this and more, in our report to be released later tonight or tomorrow! Don't miss out on it if you want to have the latest news and avoid frustration due to rumors spread out!

The interview was a waste of time. You did not push KiSS hard enough on the huge amount of outstanding bugs. The attitude shown by the KiSS representative just shows the contempt KiSS have for their customers, ie they can wait for updates till we are good and ready, in the meantime we will move on with more bug ridden moneyspinners. A perfect example is the audio problems in the DP 1000, the bug is well and truly tested and documented and definately exists. For the interviewee to lie and say it soesn't exist is totally contemptible. Kiss will rapidly lose support of they continue this attitude, and they will deserve it.

Bugs on Kiss firmware
Hi KB,
thnik you are right in some points. For example KISS seems not to be aware of all the problems occuring with their software.
I don't think that the guy at Kiss lied concerning the audio Problems. I am doing a little bit of development on software and know how hard it could be to reproduce an error. I think what kiss needs is somebody who knows the errors in there software and how to reproduce it?!
Maybe HI-Jack can make a poll with the a list of bugs and we will see which one will be voted for most. This is something you can give Kiss and tell them: "Here we have 500 votes that this bug is preventing users from buying your products in future!"
Greetings,
ak.

Well...
As always i can understand the view of the members but also the point of view from Kiss.
I never push in an interview. With mutual respect you get the truth and pushing for answers might make someone admit something that eventually is untrue, just to get rid of the questions and you will never get info through that channel again...
As i said in my post...
I'm sure Kiss has talked after the interview and with the calm approach we use at MpegPlayer we have reached something that hundred's could not have reached due to the tone and force used...
I appreciate what ak. said, that it ain't easy to reproduce bugs and it's time consuming and as long as reproduction is not done, what should they fix?
No way a developer will accept code snippets to fix bug's from all sides, they would loose control. They do accept serieus info from Gooddvdstuff and Mpegplayer and work on that.
You'll have to trust me on this for now, ok?
The main point, Kiss has made a statement to keep support for the DP-450 and DP-5xx series as with all the other players, old and new!.
A company has to make money and while money comes in from new released products they can concentrate on making the others even better and i'm sure that's what they are doing now.
Before we reach the end of 2003 you'll be coming back in here and tell me i'm right.
You'll see!

By the way...
Because a new release is not planned, it does not mean we won't get on in December... It just means it's not planned as far as we know today, but it could be planned tomorrow...

KiSS have been given the bug list from the other board, and the bug list demonstrates how to reproduce the bugs (though many of them are self obvious). As for the DP 1000 audio disk bug, it couln't be easier to reproduce, you simply stick in an audio CD and play it, eventually it will lock up. I'm sure that is not beyond the ability of even a KiSS engineer.

Kiss is aware that the cdda bug is still not fixed.
It has been confirmed by a Dutch vendor that a new FW release will fix this early december.

I don't agree 100%. The buglist in GoodDVDstuff obviously represents a huge input from the community, but in spite of that it may not be enough.
I have read the buglist with the eyes of a developer/supporter and not many of the reported errors are specified in enough detail for it to be reproduced with certainty, and without that certainty you simply have to move on to the next one that can.
What we need is to have a constructive dialouge with the techies at Kiss to have them indicate what items on the list they require additional info on and specifically what type of info. That way we (hopefully) will get the credit for the supportive community of super-users that we are and help ensure timely updates of the FW.
IMHO that is...
