Default DP558 - Should I RMA ?

Hi!!

I have just bought a dp558 200gb, an I think it is a very nice piece of hardware. But unfortunly I have some problems with it. First of all I have the white noise issue - Then my player gets VERY hot, it also seems like the HDD doesnt stop spinning even when the player is in standby - I cant seem to delete recordings on the player(dont know if I am just stupid) - Then the clock is one hour behind - I also had a bit og lag when I was streaming a DVD movie from my PC, dont know if it is because og the limitations in the networkspeed in dp558.

But what do you think, should I RMA it, or wait for a firmware update ?

Hi!

Well I just bought a 558 too, and have never had white noise... have you had it once? or Persistently?

How hot is VERY hot, it's true that the HD keeps spinning, but this is so in every 558.

To Delete: Press Mark first, then delete.

The clock has to do with the fact that Kiss have not (yet) implemented daylight savings. Wait for summer time to end or set the time to CET (GMT +2)

Lag on streaming? Could be anything, have you tried multiple movies? Do you have a hub/switch? Is it auto sensing? Are you in full duplex mode? Is your pc doing all sorts os other stuff at the same time?

IE I once was streaming a movie and my pc decided to do a virus scan, lol My streaming turned into super lagness

My 2 cents!

It gets very hot - almost like you cant hold your hand over it for longer periods of time. I seems to recall that many say that the HDD should spin down when it is not in use. Maby Im wrong on this??

The white noise I always get at the begning of every recording, I do but only for a few seconds. I have only once tried where it was permently throughout the recording.

I will try and test it a bit futher with the streaming - as u said could be something like that.

Thx for the FIX for the clock wired they havent fixed this problem!!!

Arturner,

I've bought my DP558 4 weeks ago but after a few minutes of stand-by teh HDD will stop spinning. Thats also audible by some sort of click when the reading head goes to the landing-zone of the platter. So in stand-by it won't be hot at all. So I think it's a FW bug

Rubl,

The white noise sometimes happens on the beginning of the recording but isn't that annoying that I would RMA. I hope it will be fixed in future FW updates.

It is a 200gb model so it is v.1.1.3

No I have not reset the player - But by doing that do I need to setup all the channels and EPG again ??

I think that if you can't keep your hand over it, then there is definately something wrong. Did you buy it online? If so you have 2 weeks to return it without stating a reason under European law.

Before RMA I'd suggest just seeing if you can get a replacement from where you bought it.

Well I acctualy found a way to bypass the whitenoise - it only came when I used the sound on my TV (Trough SCART), but if I turned on my sourround reciver, and used the digital output, then the white noise would disapper.

But I have another thing now - When I start to watch a avi movie, I can see about 10-20min and dont it just freezes up..
Can it be a heat related problem or maby have something to do with I have hooked the dp558 up with a wireless network ?? I have only tired to stream the movies from the PC not burn them to a cd and play them directly from the player.
