Note: Betatesters, please read this mail completely on HOW to install the FW!!
Different procedures apply to 1st time users or people already using this FW!!

Firmware for the DP-558 (both 80GB and 200GB)
Firmware is based on the Kiss firmware 1.1.4

Update instructions:
WARNING!!!
***If you don?t have the original dvd-rom drive don?t try to flash (it will not work)
***If you don?t have internet connection don?t flash this firmware!
(you only need the internet on first boot, after first boot its not necessary)

1st Time Users
Just use the update as any normal update while the player is connected to
the Internet!! Read the info below for Beta Testers as some things are
explained what happens after the FW update.

Current Betatesters!
If you are a betatester backup the /hdd/stage2 and delete the complete dir
(Delete with FTP and be sure to place the iso FIRS in the player before delete)

- Chose ?partial update?
- After flash reboot player

Player will show message ?WAIT/DOWNLOAD/INIT? after 30 seconds
On the first boot the player will download necessary files from internet.
(you will see some kind of counter on the lcd)
Then you will see the message REBOOT and the kiss is rebooted atomically

Known issues:
- Its possible you will not hear audio on the first reboot. Hope to fix this on a update. Just reboot player once more and audio will be back on.
- Telnet is enabled by default, you can disable it from the HTML page
- Fsck is working, but not 100% from HTML. (its no bug, it simply is not finished)

To connect to the kiss open your browser and type in:
HTTP://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP Address of the player)

Then all is done and hope you enjoy this firmware.

Can Samba be made possible with Kiss so I could stream kiss movies from other players like computer or Xbox?

if you mean: can the kiss be a samba server ?
then the answer is no

(memory is to low)

the kiss can already run the pc-link so its still possible if you let the Xbox use a pc-link client (and there are a few GPL Linux versions)

Thanx for the answer yes I meant server, to play the movies I record on Kiss on my XBOX. Memory too low, oh well ((

Can I freeze the FW somehow that I can not patch back in any way?

Any way to modify the LCD so I can see the channel I am watching (number or name) all the time?

at my site everything is working fine except the protected area.
i can't login with admin/admin. i tried to add an other user in the .htpasswd but does not work too.

any ideas?
