Default No network

Hi

I just bought a DP558 200GB. I have a big problem, I can't get it to connect to network or internet. I have tried both with DHCP and static IP. There is just no connection no matter what I do.
It's not possible to connect it via FTP or PC-Link.

I have tried connecting with my PC, useing the same cable, htis works perfect. A year ago I had a DB558 80GB, it had no problem, not with network anyway. So I don't think it's a problem wiht my router.

Hope some one can help me, or this DP558 is going back to...

If you can connect from PC to KISS with crosslink cable then it can only be a problem on the router / cable
if you use the same cable for the connection pc/kiss then you have a cross cable, if you use this cable on your router this will not work (unless your switch has a cross port (normally the last on))

Well if your old DP-558 worked with EXACTLY same setup then the new one probably defective.

But first try to recall - may be you changed something in router setting or something else ?

Is "led" on the players NIC connector light when you connect player to router ? is same happens with "led" on the router ?
(make sure that you connect to normal LAN and not WAN or "crosswired" port on the router)

If "no" it's either poor/wrong cable or player defective.

If "yes" enable DHCP , restart the player and try to see in it's setup menu if player got IP wrom router ("Show IP").
If it get's IP then networking OK and you probably have firewall config problem .

I don't use a crosslink cable, I only uses "normal" cables. And both are conneted to the router. When I try to switch the cables, the PC still works but not the Kiss.

Disable router firewall and XP SP2 firewal!
(Even if you have not changed router, maybe you installed SP2 on your PC
or something else what you don't think might influence the connection.

Enjoy the search

Yes, there is light on the router og both the green and yellow LED on the Kiss.

I have also tried to connect directly with out the router, with same result.

If I go to Show IP menu, there is no info in DHCP, only then I try manual IP config.

I don't use windows firewall, but this can not have anything to do with the Kiss not connecting to the internet. As far as I know...
I have tried to disable the firewall in the router, and also tried to connect directly to my modem.

If you get light but no IP address from DHCP (*I assume you have DHCP eenabled in router, right ?*) then either your player defective or you connect to the wrong port on router, try different ports.

Well I had connection problem through router - I then went to the routers setup, and I choosed the wrong modem type DSL Modem. Where I had to enter IP adress and so on. Well I was frustrated - where on the edge to return my router and RMA DP 558. Then I went to the router's setup page again choosed cable modem, and now I was beginning to se the light.
But I still wasn't able to go online with DP 558.

Phoned a good friend of mine who works with network. He said I should disable DHCP in DP 558. Put in TCP/ IP adress from router manually, and very important:

THE DNS SERVER MUST BE THE NUMBERS FROM YOUR ISP, AND NOT FROM YOUR ROUTER. To obtain the numbers from your ISP, you have to go to your Routers setup page and write the DNS numbers down and put them in DP 558 setup. Turn your DP558 off and turn it on again and you should be online. It worked for me - so it's worth a shot.

Well I too preffer static IP over DHCP (unless your router like some D-Link models can make a "reservations" in DHCP) so player's IP does not change after reboot.

About DNS ... well good router as a LinkSys for example "forwards" the DNS so entering router's address as DNS server not a problem but I know a lot of routers that do make problem because of this.
