Hi. Phew it took me ages to find this forum. There's so much info on the net about this player.

I'm English, my wife is Japanese and we've lived in both places, so I have a mix of PAL/NTSC electronics and DVDs.

I have a Japanese plasma TV which is NTSC, but also accepts HDTV component inputs. I use an iScan Ultra video processor to upconvert anything that's not HDTV to VGA, and will use the D4 connector for hi-res stuff on my new BLT.

However, my BLT is Japanese, and it only outputs NTSC, which is a real pain for PAL DVDs as it lowers the quality AND stutters. -- I haven't tried to update the firmware yet... maybe this will be fixed with the latest JP firmware.

I gather from reading the forums that an EU firmware update would allow me to choose to output PAL for PAL DVDs and NTSC for NTSC DVDs... Is this true?

No good... Why don't u use the latest official EU version somewhere...?
