Default NTFS issues

I've been experiencing the problems using NTFS on USB media, I tested an external harddrive (Maxtor Personal Storage 300GB) and a small USB memory stick and both have worked flawlessly when formated FAT32, but as soon as I test them with NTFS I get the following problem:

1. The harddrive as well as the USB-memory are detected and their names are displayed properly.
2. The "dots" in the far down-left corner are displayed indicating that the DVD-player is working.
3. Nothing much happens after this, the player crashes. I am still able to turn it off using the remote.

I am using firmware 11-95-051227-01-VNE-242-000

Did you leave compression off?

Yes, I did.

I was wondering, I've read about other people having problems with the USB chipset on their harddrives, for you: did you experience problems as I described them above?

I also read something in a sticky in the Snazio firmware forum:
NOT FW Related!!
Issue
USB 2.0 NTFS playback issues even FAT32 formated HDD's are not recognized
Snazio:
It's a USB chipset issue and some external enclosures might not be
detected. V One may either come up with compatible enclosure as an
accessory.
This doesn't describe my problem. Is it the same problem?

No, I did not experience the same problems. My USB drive had a hidden file and a broken avi in the root wich caused the browsing to stop, but the player didn't crash. I never tried an usb mem stick.

It does not look like the chipset, used in the maxtor, is the problem.

Thank you for your reply.

I have resorted to another solution, getting a 3:rd party partition manager and creating a 300GB FAT32 partition (windows inbuilt disk manager won't allow it). It appears to be working well.

I think the problems I've been having is due to the experiemental nature of Snazio's NTFS support.

Hi Theli,

Which programme did you use to create the 300Gb partition?

Cheers, Lee

I used Paragon Partition Manager 7.0: http://www.partition-manager.com/

I also found a small DOS program that is supposed to be able to do the same thing: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/ind...at32format.htm

Edited to add: It should be noted for anyone who want to try this that FAT32 only supports files up to 4GB in size.

Hi Sascha,

That's a great little utility. I take it any FAT32 partition will still have the 4Gb file limit. As I use a lot .TS material, I need files over 4Gb in the partition

Cheers, Lee
