Default New Forum Section on H.264!

Surely the interest in this format is growing and despite no players are
available today which support the H.264 format yet, they will come
eventually and by that time, it would be best to knoz everything about this
new format and start using it the day the player comes...

In the mean time, this format can already be used on PC and Media
Centers so let's share tools; tips and common knowledge on H.264 right
here. On the other hand, if you experience issues with the format, this is
the place to be and ask for help.

Enjoy
Hi-Jack

A.K.A AVC.

HD DVD and Blu-ray players support it.

I think the psp was first portable h264 player..

Though some mobile phones have been supporting h264 video for a while. But even lower resolution than 320x240 PSP and 480x270 ipod-video.. They also have very low h264 bitrate support.

Default HD-DVD / BR Players in Europe

OK this does not actually belong here, but does anybody know when the first HD-DVD and/or BlueRay players (as in stand alone players, not PC components) will be available in Europe? (Maybe this would actually be a good independent topic on the forum, don’t ya think?).

They have (possibly) just been delayed further. The EU doesn't like the licensing.

Thanks Mads_M for the info (although I would prefer not to read the article; you know be oblivious and stuff). You know I am a lawyer and I do understand what the Commission is bothered about – but still … that’s ridiculous. Now I have a ruined day … well night actually.

What the hell is this "we are a free country" bullshit?

The HD DVD and Blu-ray products on that webpage are imported from the US. Everybody can import from the US whether or not they are members of the EU.

The discussion above was about European products.
