Default Maxtor Shared Storage II

Thinking about buying a NAS, I stumbled upon the Maxtor Shared Storage II which I think would give most bang for the buck.
(It's performance is more than decent --> http://www.tomsnetworking.com/nas/ch...html?chart=130
And the pricepoint is very low --> +-350 € for the 500Gig version)

Does anyone have experience with the device?

Questions I would like to see answered:
1) is the performance of the 500GB version comparable to the 1TB version?
2) Is it possible to run your own applications on the device (eg wiz'd, oxylbox or any other mediaserver which can feed media to a transgear dvx-500E)

Maybe, with the NAS-scene evolving so quickly, there should be a forum-section with NAS-devices, software running and player hardware used. Or just someone who can create an overview of compatible combinations... (Hi-Jack, if you can find a little spare time

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
Ward

1: Yes as it's the same steering except the TB version is bigger since it uses 2 drives (2X500GB)
2: Yes, there is custom software available but not unlimited; Processing
power and memory are limited.

There already is a forum section on "Storage and Media Streaming Solutions!"
Basically means all storage solutions which can be changed into Media servers can be discussed there.

We'll expand these before the end of the year but not right now
There are a lot of different devices and we are looking into supporting the
most popular ones with a seperate forum in the near future. until then, the
one global forum should be enough

Thank you for the fast reply,

Really appreciate you putting so much effort in to the community!

Do you plan on testing this NAS, because the performance is really good (especially compared to previous generation drives)

Thx
