Just when you made the decision to buy a High Definition LCD ort PLasma TV after long deliberation, there is already another type TV on the road. Mitsubishi announced it has developed the first TV powered by lasers that offers even more colors and higher picture quality. Beside the advantage of Laser TV being cheaper, it also has a much lower consumption of around 25% of current TV's and 30.000 hours of operation in a life cycle. The chip it is based on delivers 90% of the color range from a human eye says Novalux. The first Laser driven TV's are expected to hit the markets by Christmas 2007.

Rather this means "The End" for Plasma and LCD? Surely in the bigger sizes, but in the smaller range, they will probably remain available.

The technology has been around for a fairly long time. The problem has always been the red laser though as it has the largest wavelength. Considering that this is announced by a very new company a lot of people I've spoken to, including myself, have their doubts. They claim to be ready to sell them by the end of 2007. We'll see about that! I also envisage a hefty price tag when they first come out!

Well, Mitsubishi is not a new company and they really are forcing these new
TV Displays. I'm pretty positive they will come but indeed, expensive in the
beginning, unless there are many more brands following...

We'll see, if still found it interesting to see one finally working...
Maybe I should file for a Test Sample (because my electricity bills)

Mitsubishi are not the ones developing the product, they are going to be branding and selling them. Arasor are the developers.

The developing company, Arasor International, is said to be listing on the Australian stock exchange shortly

They've just showed off the first working prototype. Unfortunately I don't seeing hitting it's expected shelf dat of Christmas 2007. Not at any reasonable price at least!

It's actualy a competitor for rear projecton TV's (RPTV) and projectors. I doubt it wil compete in the LCD/PLASMA market.
The technology looks promising compared to the conventional bulbs an crt's needed for projection. If the life expectancy of the lightsource is true it will be a killer for the projection-lamp market.

Is it a new marketing name for OLED or something really new ?

I dont think the laser tv uses OLED as i dont think its based on that.. but rather a laser beam... but im just wondering wont laser tv scorch our eyes or soemthing. Maybe its not based on high power laser beams. If it was you end up sending your enemies high powered laser beam TV and as soon as they turn it on ZAP! lol
